i had the mitsu rims on my car...17x6.5w/ 245/45/17's on it...many ppl told me they wouldnt fit......but i did not have any clearence problems well now i got another set of rims that are 17x7.5w/+40 offset....well i need to know if my 245's can fit on these without rubbing will it be much of a difference...same size tire just a lil wider rim to fit the tire better???

ok i did some research on this subject and i found that a 17x7 +42mm offset will fit but it says a 17x7 +40mm offset will not fit...these rims are on a 07 mazda 3 right now and they do fit....but i just cant figure out if my tires will work with these rims on my car the guy that has them right now has 205/50/17's on his.....

do you know what the offset is on the mitsu rims you had?

unfortunatly i dont....and tried to find it online and couldnt...would it be anywhere on the rim??

ok its showing that i have a -12.7 offset...i have to be doing something wrong???

off set is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the actual mounting surface. if the wheel mounting surface was right in the middle, it would have a 0 offset. stock protege rims have the mounting surface pushed out to the outside edge of the wheel, so they have a +50 offset. if the mounting surface was toward the inside edge of the wheel, the offset would be -50.

you want to measure the width of the rim, then the distance from the back edge of the wheel to the mounting surface and subtract half the width of the wheel. for a protege, the physical wheel width is actually 7 (even though they are 16x6 rims), so the distance from the rear edge to the centerline would be around 5.5 inches.

for your mitsubishi rims, the actual wheel width is probably around 7.5 inches, so if you measure the distance from the back edge of the wheel to the mounting surface, you shold get some thing over 3.75 inches. (the centerline of the wheel)
