New Mazda 3 skyactiv road noise.. Sounds like an airplane !!!!

Hi all,

I have just got my new 2012 Mazda3 skyactiv 2.0, itouring 5 door, the hatchback model.

As long as I started driving it I noticed that it has a significantly loud cabin noise, it's like riding in an airplane, and it feels really good when I stop the car, it's like having a bad noisy A/C on. Not sure where it's coming from, i feel a lot of noise is coming from the wheels especially on the freeway but there isn't any clicking noises from the engine or anything just an overall loud driving experience.

This my first hatchback I had a 1996 toyota camry which was running great and didn't have any road noise compared to the mazda, not sure if that's normal in a hatch back or is there something wrong with my car, I don't remember that it was that noisy when I test drove it.

Also, I noticed when pressing the brakes it does that cracking noise and I also feel it in my foot.

Please advice it that normal in a M3 or should I contact my dealer

thank you so much ..

Hi there, I've just taken delivery of a brand new Mazda 3 launch edition (Tamura) and I know exactly what your talking about regarding the noise. Before I bought my M3 I did a fair bit of research, as you do, and I read they had improved the road noise considerably, and like you, It was not noticeable when I took out the test drive car. Although, the sales guy was talking, plus, I don't really think I was concentrating on the road noise at the time. If they have improved road noise, god only knows what it was before..!! Saying all this, I absolutely love the car, it drive so well, sticks to the road like glue. Superb..!! I'm going to see if the road noise subsides over the next month or two, whilst all the stiff suspension and other things you get with a new car settle in. As for the brake issue you have, my brakes are fine. If your not happy with your brakes, I would talk to the dealer who sold you the car, even if it's only to tell you they are fine. Happy (noisey) driving

Road Noise

Howdy, I discovered that a lot of the road noise comes from the tires that
Mazda puts on their new vehicles. I believe they are fairly low end tires that Mazda uses to save them some $$$.
After I had my 3 for about 18000 miles, I had to replace the tires. As soon as I put on better tires, the road noise was reduced dramatically (not to mention the handling improved if that was even possible). I understand with a new vehicle, no one wants to hear go drop $800 for a set of new tires. But it really helped the road noise issue in my 3.
