mazda 3 shock problem i think

1) i was looking my car from the side (left and right) and i noticed that the top of the left wheel has more clearance from the fender than the right wheel. i tried measuring with finger to see id indeed there's a diference and the left has 4 fingerd clearance while the right has 3!!

2) second thing is that when sometimes i hit a hole or bump in the street with the left side of the car, instead of moving just up and down, it side to side !

what could be the problem to those?
is there a solution?

if one side is higher than the other it's likely a spring that's broken - though that shouldn't happen with a young vehicle, even if it's an 04.
Do you park with that corner of the car 'compressed', over time you could make the spring sag if that was the case.

Push on each corner of the car and see if the shocks dampen the bouncing or not. The next thing to check struts / shocks is to see if they are leaking - in which case they need to be replaced. Or if they are very rusty, which means they are just old - in which case the bouncing test should have let the car bounce before settling.

Take a look at the car head on, the wheel orientation (camber or in/out tilt) should look the same on both sides, if not there's a strut, strut mount or other bushing, ball joint that's needing replacement - or maybe just a horrible alignment.
