low humming ~55mph

I slid into a median today in the snow. I hit it just perfectly and it blew out two of my tires drivers side front and rear. I had them replaced and the dealership checked everything else. They said that everything looked fine, but as soon as i got on the highway home i noticed a low humming noise. It gets softer above 70mph. I called and talked to my service advisor at the dealership and they said it could be ice buildup. (It snowed last night and got down to 7 degrees). The hum itself in my opinion is a slow pulsating hum (1 second on, off 1 second humm.......humm.......humm.......humm) that i would guess happens every two to three rotations of the tire. Any ideas what it could be?

is there any noticable vibration? or just sound? it could be that one of the pieces of plactic trim in the wheel well is out of place..if not maybe a bad tire but i would think you would have some vibration with a bad tire

It vibrates to the sound. The tires are brand new.

Did you get the car aligned after the accident?

I did my own visual inspection today. I put the car up on a jack starting with driver side front and then passenger side front. I wiggled both wheels using my hands at 12 and six nothing moved. Then I took both tires off in succession, and inspected everything from the tie rods to the axles to the packing on the bearings and the CV joints. There are no visual defects of any kind anywhere in either wheelwell. I did knock off a lot of ice on the tie rods and the axles I'm going to go try and drive the car in a little bit to see if the humming disappeared after I did that. Deadeyedevon - there were no plastic pieces even loose, they were all snug. Eggynatey - they test drove the car after putting on the new tires and said that it wasn't pulling either direction so they didnt think it needed aligned. I agree I drove the car earlier today before my inspection and it maybe was drifting a little to the right but nothing too noticeable.

I'd have it thrown on an alignment rack and checked. You might save yourself some bucks on tires.
Good luck and happy holidays!

Already bought two brand new tires. Kuhmo Solus HR 16. I said in my first post that the two tires blew. Ripped them wide open when they hit. I'm starting to agree it could be a bad tire. I have an appointment on Monday.

the above posted a good point tho, if you hit something hard you could have knocked something out of whack. they shoulc have checked that at the tire place

I read your 1st post. ;)
I'm saying that IF you knocked your alignment out, your new tires will wear much more quickly unless you have your car re-aligned. If you hit a curb hard enough to blow the tire, then I'll bet you need an alignment.

Good luck.

Yup Yup, Im amazed an alignment wasnt preformed at the time the tires were replaced
