Buy EBC or HAWK or stay with OEM brake pads?

Hi guys,

I got 35k on my 06 and never changed brakes, I did inspect them and inner pads on the front are way gone. I want to replace them.

I have been reading about EBC and HAWK and it seems that EBC will groove rotors more and HAWK does not have right fitments and it makes some noise when braking. Is that true?

So, the question is should I stay with OEM or what would be comparable to OEM brand.

Thanks

I ran my OEMs for 72,000 miles on my '04. I drive mostly highway. I think the OEM's are fine. I upgraded to EBC Green Stuff's for a track day session I had. They squealed like a stuck pig for a while, but worked great on the track...I did warp the new rotors though.

I don't see any reason to use anything but the OEM's around town...in fact I have OEM's on it now..

If you don't track or autox your car you don't need to throw money away on "race pads" I use Hawk hp plus on my RX-7 they dust really badly and squeal really badlly when they get hot. but its a deadicated track car so i don't care. buy the oem pads over autozone or someplace like that. oem pads seam to be of better quality plus the give you all the clips and brake lube with them.

get EBC green pads, i use them and they are way better than oem pads. they have different kinds of ebcs, the reds and yellow are for track use, greens are for daily beating

I too use Hawk street pads on my RX7, but the dust is pretty severe. I have no squeaking issues, but you have to be diligent to keep the dust off of the wheels.

I have 153k on my 2004. Rear brakes done twice at dealer. Front brakes are original. Bizzare but true! My vote is oem at the dealer.

If you're just looking for a street pad then the Hawk HPS are pretty good. I replaced my rears with those, I have no squeaking (except when very very cold and then only the first time or two I use them), and the dust is ridiculously reduced. If the dust doesn't bother you then the OEM pads are fine as well.

Most of the problems people have with Hawk pads are from using the track pads, or having the incorrect pad that doesn't have the shim on the back of it to connect with the piston.

Changing the pads is pretty simple, esp. if you've done a brake job before.
