Mazda 3 Sport 2006

Car only starts in Neutral, is this a mechanical, or electrical problem? purchased a CD on what I thought would give me possible causes with viable solutions, only suggested adjusting arm to transmission. PS the Park indicator light does not come on. Thanks for any possible solutions to my problem.

Mazda 3 doesnt start -intermittent-no boost rqd

Hi there..Sorry I dont have an answer for Brian but have the same problem!
3x in one month now my Yr 2006 Mazda 3 GT Sport (automatic)..also doesnt start nor turn over. Lights/wipers work ok...fiddle around with steering wheel and/or gears and starts.
Got battery tested..good still. Alternator is at 50 % but thats isnt the problem.
Eventually car starts WITHOUT a boost. Repair shop unable to diagnose on computer unless they catch problem at time I bring in.

Ive seen some posts with links to service reports about corroded wires on starter.
I wasnt able to open..maybe link outdated. I want to get it towed to Mazda when happens and recommend they review.

If you get issue fixed or service report..I need same help.
Much appreciated.

Hutch I resolved my problem ( no lights to indicate car was in Park, would only start in Neutral), it was the saftey Neutral switch, which sits at the outside of the transmission, part of the assembly of the gear shift where it attaches to the transmission. It is a plastic piece that is adjustable, held in place with 2 bolts, the holes are large enough to allow some movement, which worked for me. A new one costs about $100 dollars at Canadian Tire (special order). Hope this solves your problem.

Thanks Brian for your response and tip.
I went with trying first another service report/tip I got on website here. Took to dealership and got it resolved.
Shift lever at the Park Neutral switch was rusted and not all the way in park..installed new lever, washer, nut and cleaned the rust. $12.parts + labour
