Intake Manifold/PCV Hose

Hi,

This is my first post after just buying a 2004 Mazda 3i. I feel a bit like a sap, as I probably did not examine maintenance records fully enough before buying (even though I researched everything else like crazy!); the car, however, appears to have been very well maintained by its only (original) owner, and is even still under extended warranty (top-of-the-line, or nearly, TotalCare).

My concern is that apparently only in the last month (at 75,000 miles), a PCV hose needed to be replaced (symptoms were engine light on and RPMs not going past 3000); perhaps more importantly, only about 10 days later, the intake manifold also needed to be replaced. As I understand it, these two issues are closely connected...

So, then, I am wondering if these problems might signify any underlying or deeper issues with the car. And, could they have caused any further damage that might rear its ugly head later? BTW, I was told that the only "major" maintenance done on this car was a new alternator (and battery), so you can imagine my concern when I came upon these two more recent issues while digging through all the paperwork.

This is my first "new" car after driving an incredibly "loyal" Acura for nearly 20 years and 225,000 miles! Now that I've finally bought a car I've wanted for a long time, I hope with all my being that I don't need to worry about this. So, please be gentle ;) and thanks for any input you can offer.

Sk-C
