Exclamation HELP NEEDED-Knock Sensor - P0328

Hi,

2006 Mazda 3 (BK), 1.6 petrol.

Recently got CEL (check engine light) on start-up. After couple of tries it goes away and never appears again while driving, until the next day or until a long stop (in-stop for about 5 hours) between start-ups.

Made computer scanning at different workshops and they all displayed code P0328 - Knock Sensor. Deleted it but it occurred again on the next day.

Some symptoms I observed recently:
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Poor acceleration
  • Throttling sound when clutch is released or accelaration pedal hit

So I'm thinking about changing the knock sensor but since it is a costly and tricky thing to do (as collector needs to be removed and re-assembled again) I wonder what can be done to identify the exact issue root?

Any experience with it? Any advice how to proceed?
Thanks

Hi! I know this was quite a long time ago...I have just registered to be able to ask you here have you sorted your problem out? Was it a faulty knock sensor or something more serious? Could you let me know please, my car does same thing.

Hi patso84, oh yes it was, I changed it and everything works fine now, the check engine light is gone and engine works like a charm. I really recommend doing that if you don't have any other symptoms accompanying the problem, for example starter issue or other...

Thank you very much! I really appreciate your help! I already have ordered a knock sensor and will have it replaced tomorrow hopefully! In my case car is running fine, its just the EML that comes on every morning at first start up, when engine warms up a little I clear the EML P0328 code and it is not coming on until next day morning on start up. Strangely this morning EML did not come on dash, so I hope its possibly a faulty knock sensor. Fuel consumption is not much different to normal, may be very slightly increased. Otherwise car runs fine. Just slight air sucking noise when turn the steering wheel while the engine runs on idle, sometimes when pressing the gas pedal thatcsucking noise occurs for a second and not every time.
Thanks again and all the best!

Exactly, I had the very same scenario as you described, hope changing knock sensor will solve it for you too, keep us posted here for reference.

Good luck, mate!

I hope changing knock sensor should either fix it or at least it will narrow down the issue.

Changing knock sensor seems to have that issue fixed. I do not see any difference really, other than the engine check light is not coming on anymore. This is my second Mazda 3 by the way, and it is at 113k miles. My first Mazda 3 was 140k + miles and have never had a single issue with it, brilliant car! I do not know how did I sell it... got in love with a Honda Civic but after owning it for not long I missed my Mazda, and was looking for one. Now thats the one, that I already fixed.
