Haynes Manual for the 3
 

I've periodically looked for a Haynes or other manual for the 3. Finally I noticed that my local Advance Auto had the Haynes. I bought it, and it's way better than total ignorance, but it has a few issues. The print quality is far worse than the old ones, with the photos being very dark and hard to see. There are various things where I'd at least like to see how it goes together, like the front wheel bearings (I'm on my 3rd set) but the manual just says special equipment is needed (yeah, a freaking press, not that tough to find) so they don't show anything at all. Same for the transaxle. Old manuals usually had that stuff. Common issues like the thermostat are shown, but there are way better photos on the 'net. Same with the temperature sensor, even with the info shown you don't really get a clue what's involved. I don't think they mention the special socket required either. Finally, no technical data on sensors like what resistance to expect. So if anybody was thinking about buying one, it's better than nothing, but not by as much as one might hope.

I second your opinion... same with Haynes manuals - they have some info, but usually nothing too useful.
If anyone is going to work on your own car, get the factory shop manual, it's usually worth the money.

I see you're in canandaigua - that's just down the road from me.
