Emblem Paint

Sorry if this is a repost but what type of paint should I get to paint emblems? What kind of clear coat should I get?

heres wat i did with mine....

1) sand them down with somewat rough sand paper (enought to ruff everythin up)
2) primer. i used grey primer, as i painted my embles black
3) pick wat every colour you want. i went with a black metallic.
4) clear coat. i just used some automotive clearcoat.

remember!! do a few light coats of primer, then 4-5 light coats of paint, then 2-3 coats of clear....well, thats wat i did anyways...

really light coats, always! you can always add more coats, don't go for full coverage after just one or two!

I'm horribly impatient with painting stuff

I didn't use any sort of special 'automotive' primer, paint, or clearcoat, and I think my emblems turned out great

I had them flat black back in the day but went to a gloss black, I like it a lot more since I don't have anything else flat black on the car :)

On the 3, I know most of the emblems don't have holes behind them, so is it possible to remove and paint the emblems without destroying the adhesive so much that you can't get the emblems back on? None of my emblems actually have any adhesive on them (they've all been replaced, and the adhesive must be a different part number) but they're clipped in by the posts and holes.

ok
on 04-06 mazda3's:
the mazda symbol is held on with both tape AND 2 pins
'mazda' is held on with tape
'3' is held on with tape.

on 07+ mazda3's,
every thing is the same, but the 'mazda' is held on with 3 pins, instead of tape

Pins are so lame. I don't think Mazda likes us de-badging their cars so they drill HOLES IN THE METAL to secure something that 3M could do so easily.

I think emblems may look like in a black chrome, if you want to keep the chrome look.

Would niteshades tint spray, and some clearcoat do the trick on that one?

To get them off when they have the tape on the back are you using a blow-drier or something to heat it first? Anyone know if the 2.3 on the side is tape of pinned? Thanks for the awesome responses guys!

And its sand, prime, paint, clear coat right?
FYI I have an 07

The 2.3 on the side is just taped. To get my badges off I heated it with a blow drier, and used dental floss to work my way between the adhesive and the paint.

OR let your car sit out on a hot day for a few hours.

and +1 to using dental floss.... fishing line just kept snapping on me...

I would get this if you have a car that is the same color. I bought some blue, and on a chrome piece, it makes a friggin schweeeeeet anodized look.

Did you do it on your P5?
