Speedvision WC at Mosport

May 17-19
Touring Car Race: Sat., 5/18
<http://www.speedvisionwc.com/2002/schedules.html>

Is anyone interested in going to this? I think some of us from the Toronto collective are making the trip to watch the racing.. it's a long weekend I believe for Victoria Day.

(Sorry if this is considered too regional but it does involve all the WC Proteges n'est-ce pas?)

Protomotive "Tour"

Looking at the race schedule, It looks like we could give a "Tour" of the race cars (#88 Foo and #96 Espenlaub) at about 10:30 am on Saturday, between Qualifying (9:10 to 9:30) and the race (1:25pm), at our trailer. This is somewhat subject to change (crash, broken car etc.) but this would be a good time to look at the cars up close and personal, and we can do some Q&A time too. We should be doing pre-race checks, which means the wheels are all off, etc.

If you are interested please post here and I will try to make it happen.

We can probably do something similar at all the Speed World Challenge races for the rest of the year if there are enough people interested.

"Tour" or no, Please stop by and say hi, and we love to talk to fellow Protege fans.

Jim Jordan

Jim, that's great of you to offer. I wish I was close enough to take advantage of it. I really do have questions about the cars. Especially about the brakes, since I'm in the process of an upgrade. Good luck with the race! Anyone in the area should go and take some pictures for those of not fortunate enough to be able to go.

Sweet. I will direct toprotege people over to this thread to express their interest.... we'll see if that gets any results ;)
Very generous offer!

Sorry this is off topic, but I'm not sure if Jim or Joe read the Suspension/Brakes threads very often. I'm interested in the brake upgrades on your World Challenge Proteges. If you'd care to share some information with an adoring fan, please look at the 'Brake upgrades for 2000 ES' thread in the 3rd Gen Suspension/Brakes area. Thanks.

I'll be there!

This reply may be a little late but I'll definitely be there. I would love to see the cars close up. Now if only I could get you guys to run here at Watkins Glen...:D But at least it will give me a chance to check out Mosport.

So who is still in on this?
We will need at least 20 people for a 10% discount.

An entire weekend pass is $40 advance/$60 at the gate
Saturday alone is $20 but you have to buy a full weekend pass and you will be refunded the difference when you leave.

Looks like there are about closer to 5 or 6 people into going so far so I think a group rate is unattainable. :)

The schedule for the day is available here: http://www.world-challenge.com/2002/mos/schedule.html

Touring Car qualifying is 9:10 - 9:30 AM.
Race is 1:25 - 2:25 PM

Jim Jordan May-10th-2002 05:13 PM

All Welcome

Big group, small group, it does not matter. Anyone who is interested come by on Saturday at 10:30 and we will give you a close look at both cars. In case we have a problem, we will still do the best we can.

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing as many Protege fans as possible.

BUMMER....... Here on the west coast, I was going to watch the ALMS race at Sears Point (weekend of 4/19) and I THOUGHT I was also going be able to view the World SPEED Challenge, WRONG........ It appears that series is running with the Trans-Am car this weekend at Mosport. Now I'll have to wait for Laguna Seca, during the fall.

Have a Good Time @ Mosport!

Go Roger Foo.

Later, Speedbump.

Just wanted to say a quick thank you to Jim Jordan and his whole team fror their most excellent hospitality! (Including Tim from Mazda Motorsports).

I'm not sure we were exactly a good luck charm for the team though as both cars retired with engine failure :( All the best at the next race though!

What a weekend for MAZDA, with Scott Bradley grabing the "pole position" in his TriPoint Mazda Protege ES!!!!!! Bradley had trouble on the first lap and was past by four other cars including race winner Ken Dobson (BMW 325i), and Wil Turner (BMW 325i), while Pierre Kleinubing placed just in front of Bradley in his RealTime Acura Integra R.

Paul Bonacorsi placed a fine 7th, will Robert Baxter finished 10th.
Roger Foo qualified in 19th position, but had a quick exit when he blew his engine on the main straight in a BIG WAY....causing his engine to catch fire. Bummer.

Later, Speedbump

I would LOVE to hear from some our forum members who attended this event at Mosport.

rowan May-19th-2002 12:04 PM

It was pretty cool to see Bradley on the poll next to Kleinubing (?) in the Acrua and in front of a sea of BMW's... Unfortunately, Bradley lost all of his places off the start as about 6 cars out-accellerated him. Fortunately he was able to grab back a couple places and finish fourth.

All the other drivers did well too. It was awesome to be at the top of Moss corner and see all the Proteges going around on three wheels .. and even sometimes passing BWM's on the uphill straight :)
