Smaller and/or Lighter battery avail?
 

My OEM battery is starting to get weak in the morning. Before I open my wallet, does anyone make a smaller and/or lighter battery for my 2002.5 DX sedan 2.0L? It's a daily driver so it needs to be reliable and durable as a "regular guy battery." And I auto-x so it can't be flopping around in there and I can't be rigging up something ghetto, or I won't pass tech. Any help fellow racing co-horts?

I plan on replacing my battery with a slim-line battery made for the 3rd gen RX-7's.....these are very tiny and still maintain plenty of cranking torque and long life. I plan on mounting mine in the rear spare jack well.....should hide it nicely and clean up the engine bay a lot.

Could I mount this is the stock location, with maybe shorter "J" bolts/rods? I'm not ready for a battery re-location. And where can I get this battery? Thanx

I myself am looking for the site that sells them. I would assume you could use the stock location if you bought a universal battery tie down and modified it to fit.....

Why are you looking for this anyway?? I'm doing it to remove junk from the engine bay and even up the weight distribution....battery is pretty heavy!

Me too. Well, more the weight thing I guess, both for distibution and less of it. I hadn't thought about clearing up the engine bay, you're right. I figure now's the time since the OEM one is getting tired. But as for re-locating it, I can't afford to give up trunk room because of my job, (some days if I had one more package I'd have to eat it) and running w/o a spare isn't wise for me either, sometimes I'm 50 miles from Nowhere, USA. Let me know if you find one, and I'll do the same, a good friend used to auto-x a 3rd gen RX-7 twin turbo, he might know all about it.

yeah, see if he knows what brand it is....people that use the Greddy elbow's and FMIC's have to use them.

The replacement battery should have at least the CCA of the oem or it may significantly shorten its life. Also, make sure the battery is tight/secure or it will vibrate itself to death.

You may consider a gel-type battery since they carry tremendous power for their size/weight.

BTW, what have you done to diagnose why your battery is dying?
