Rally car
 

Im think a 323 GTX around 88-89 would be a good rally car, for a good price. What kinds of things do you do to rally cars? I know you dont lower them or anything, but I would like to rally, because it looks hella cool. hehe now I have 2 cars to mod, eh too much money needed. I wish money wasent a problem.

GTXs are still used quite a bit in rallying. The hard parts are finding a rust free car and keeping transmissions together. The only people I know who race them either rebuild the trans after every race or have the motorsports trans...and still rebuild them quite often. This would put you in Production GT class (for a fairly stock build) or Open class for a hot one. PGT will probably be the best bet since in Open you are running against Grp A Audis and the Factory Subaru, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai Teams.

Go to www.sccaprorally.org for a breakdown of the classes. I run in G2 which is an open class for 2wd/2.0L N/A cars. It allows me to do anything to the motor short of turbo, can run any trans or ring and pinion, any suspension, and I can reinforce the heck out my car...a good thing with the Pro...its made of some pretty thin stuff in spots.

If I wanna go turbo, I would move to G5. The car would still be competitive, but less reliable unless I got a stronger transmission and half shafts.

My advice to those getting started is to spend money on building a strong car and buy good suspension first. Then add power as you learn how to drive. RWD looks cool with the crazy tail out slides, but FWD be faster and will prepare you better for when you can afford 4WD.

Looking for more info on replacing a tranny for a motorsport one. I dont see anything on it. This would be for a GTX, can someone help me out.

hehe this rally stuff is hella cool, my friend agrees to be my co-driver. After some stuff we went through with me driving my 2WD 323, and all the times we went out of control, I always got out of it. He feels pretty confident with me driving.

Im thinking if I do find a GTX, it will cost me around $2k?? I might have to fly over somewhere and drive it back home.

My advice would be to get the rules from www.sccaprorally.org before committing to one of these cars. They may be dropping them from PGT due to their age.
