protege5 --- 15.96@84mph :)

yes i did it!!!

first time this summer on the 1/4 mile i decided that i was going to make into the 15 seconds before i get back home...

even if i was on my winter tires 205/50R16 i thought that i had a chance...

first run it was a long time since i was on the strip so i was nervous a little bit... rev at 3500 launch ( lots of wheel hop!!! ) shift at 6000 each gear up to 4th when i passed the line. my tires had 31psi

on the second run my car had around 1 hours of cooling down i lowered the air pressure to 27 psi get on the strip heat up my tires ( a lot! ) stage, launch a 4000rpm again LOTSof wheel hop shift 2nd with a chirp shift 3rd and 4th all at around 6200rpm and i did it

and on the final run i tryed to do the same thing i did but i lowered the air to 24 psi ( bad 60ft's ) launch at 4000rpm this time no wheel hop but a lot of wheel spin, shift second gear my car bog's ( DAMN ) get up the speed shift 3rd and 4th again but i didint beat the record and was eliminated of the braket racing.

here are the mod's i did to get my times

stripped interior,
exhaust deconnected
THAT'S IT!

1st run: 12H43pm
RT: 0.279
60FT: 2.38
1/8: 10.44
1/4: 16.28 @ 83.67mph

2nd run: 01H55pm
RT: 0.033
60FT: 2.34
1/8: 10.22
1/4: 15.96 @ 84.85mph

3rd run: 02H52pm
RT:-0.002
60FT: 2.34
1/8: 10.26
1/4: 16.09 @ 83.33mph

i think that if my mph are slower this year than last year it's because of my bigger wheel diameter 25" instead of 23"

so what do you guys think?

kc5zom May-1st-2002 10:32 PM

Nice but your MPH seems a little low to be pulling 15's. Maybe you should post your slips?

Orange Crush May-1st-2002 10:54 PM

Sweet dude!! That kicks A$$!!!

5 Guardian May-1st-2002 11:47 PM

ill ahve my time slips scanned tomorow... so i should post it then

the mod's on my car are like i said

--- a stripped interior ( no back seats, no passenger seat, and no spare )

--- a deconected exhaust ( right after the downpipe )

--- and that's it...

btw i was on
25" winter tires 205/50R16 ( top speed 170kmh )
last year my best was 16.02 @ 88mph on
23" original tires 195/50R16 ( top speed 215kmh )

i think that will explain my mph...

Im a loser baby!

Hummm... I just got back from the track. My tail between my legs my self esteem gone. Stalled at the tree. Well just once. The other 5 times I ran I avg 17.3 So how in hell are peeps getting 15s? I would be loving life if I could just get a 16.999. I am launching at 2500 and shifting about 5500. Tried different shift points, power shifting, double clutching. No go. Car weighed in at 2970 with me, the spare, & the bass inside.

I got some video. Last time no one looked at it. So screw it. I did race a Pro ES. I lost of course.

well there is half your problem...you need to do some serious weight reductions...how heavy are ur tyres??

you need to lose the spare, the back seat, the passenger seat if you can, definately the bass...i mean c'mon...i know peeps here who have even taken one their headlight in order to get more air in to the engine bay...yuo need to do more prep before you run it again...hopefully it will see you run some better times...also try letting the pressure off the tyres...as 5 guardian has demonstrated...traction can be enhanced by widening the contact patch to a certain extent...eg wider tyres or reducing psi in tyres

good luck next time:)

p.s. also i think you should be launching at about 3000-3500 and maybe shifting at 6000:)

i think that tredos3 pretty much explained the problem and the way to fix it :)

Mxyzptlk May-2nd-2002 09:52 AM

I still think that I should be able to break in the high 16s with the extra weight. Stock is 2716. I can only take out the seat cushions and those are light. The subs are not coming out ever. Not possible. and the tires are stock as well as the donut (which is under the subs and is extremely hard to remove).

5 Guardian May-2nd-2002 10:07 AM

then what you need is:

your car to have more mileage,
your tires to me more hot ( burnouts ),
less air in them,
launch around 4000rpm,
shift around 6000rpm,
and try to powershift,

with all that combined you should be able to do it.

please do not do a burnout with your street tires, thats like talking dirty to your hand before you masterbate. its not needed and is useless. all you need to do with street tires is do a quick chirp to get the gravel and junk off the tires. and DO NOT go thru the water box. someone can correct me if im wrong, but thats what i was always told.

5 Guardian May-2nd-2002 10:53 AM

sorry my firend but it DOES make a difference... just try it... event in your own driveway ( not a bs burnout... SMOKE EM! ) then get out and touch your tires you will se they will be:

1- hot
2- sticky
3- without any gravel
4- more presure inside ( that is the reason you lower the psi before because if you go on the drag strip with 30psi and then heat them youll have like 36 ou 37 psi = no traction )

Mxyzptlk May-2nd-2002 11:08 AM

I think my main problem is the start. 1st gear just sucks. I get the absolutley most horrible launches. Should I go to 2nd much earlier than 6000 RPM. Like do I launch and then immediately shift up? I dunno. Most of the power is in 2nd I think. I tried power shifting. Didn't make too much difference.

benf000 May-2nd-2002 01:06 PM

damn

i am hitting that same time (15.9) running a 65 shot!

but then again, i have 17 inchers and full interior. i did take the bass out though.

maybe its time to disconnect the exhaust, and get rid of the weight!

LOL. Hey what can I say, I'll try anything to get the times down. But If I was running bracket races Id be good. Constant times.
