2nd time @ dragstrip

OK, 1st things 1st, i'm a crummy driver :( :D

Last time the best i could do was a 16.732 @ 83.81....that was with 205/50/15 Azenis + 12lb rims, ~8 gallons of gas, and a temp of ~66.

This time the best was the last of ten runs - 16.672 @ 84.92..... with 2nd gen VICS manifold, cheapo 185/60/14's + stock alloys, ~3.5 gallons of gas, and a higher temp of ~80. This was the ONLY run of the day that i used the adjustable cam gears to advance the intake cam 2.5 degrees.... dunno if it helped or hurt; whatever the case, it just so happened to be my best run.

Here's perhaps a more meaningful comparison between last time - and this time (did not play with the cam gears; so engine setup is the same *except* for 2nd gen VICS manifold):

Last time: ---------- This time:

60ft--- 2.579 -------- 2.758
330ft-- 7.184 -------- 7.319
1/8et-- 10.937 ------- 11.033
1/8mph- 64.79 -------- 65.83
1/4et-- 16.932 ------- 16.930
1/4mph- 83.74 -------- 83.51

sooooooo this time 2/10ths slower in 60ft, but with the same 1/8et..... is it the smaller tires? difference in shifting? the manifold?? just don't know....
i was thinking that the larger tires would - in one sense - cover any given distance quicker.... whereas the smaller tires would 'rotate' faster.....what's better??? :dunno:

i had to be fairly deliberate when shifting to third as it was easy to miss - i would say my shifting was slightly faster last time.

also this go around; EVERY time i shifted to 2nd and floored it, the tires 'squealed' - fighting for traction... might have lost a tenth with that going on. this DID NOT happen last time....

well i'm nowhere close to these 1st gen guys running 16.2, 16.0, or the EGT with the crazy time of 15.591. then again my launch/60ft times are lacking big-time, and the engine does have 219K.

if anyone sees anything positive about 'me times' lemme know :)

Once you figure out how to launch it, you should be doing better. At LACR on Azenis, I was in the 2.4s for all but my fastest run, which had a 2.358 60 foot.

I would guess that the smaller tires are limiting your traction, or you aren't getting the engine hi enough in the rev band before the tires stop spinning and bogging. Or you're going the other way and spinning too much.

BTW, I always get a screech out of my tires on the 1-2 shift (at the drag strip).

just practice! i thought i was a crummy driver and got consistent 2.38s on my 60 foot...and that was my first time out to the drag strip.

"practice makes perfect":D

HEY I GOT 2.4S/2.5S 60 FOOT TIMES WITH BAD BAD WHEEL HOP NEED INFO ON STOPPING WHEEL HOP?

Try dropping your tire pressure a bit more. I have a horrible wheel hop problem with my P5, but dropping the pressure seems to help that out alot. Also, don't "drop" the clutch from high RPM. Not good for your car/clutch. Try either slipping the clutch (will wear the clutch faster) or launch from a lower RPM. I've got my 60ft's down to 2.4's with the tire pressure at 28PSI and a 3250 drop.
