Speed Limit

Ok guys/gals...I know this pisses me off (the whole speed limit drop). After reading these articles...it pisses me off even more.
Just check this site out.

TX Speed Limit Info

All I have to say is....I've got one for the EPA:fu:

I hear ya dude...course its not like MANY people are really driving 55 anyway...if they are its for only one reason...they are somewhere on the road alone (no other traffic) and are afraid they will certainly get nailed by a speed trap, which we ALL know exist, OR if they are going 55 they are getting passed left and right and are in fact a road hazzard!!!

:D
in all my years of driving in houston...and that is a lot of years folks....in fact I learned to drive in houston.....and even when the limit was 55 before....I have NEVER witnessed any mass of drivers running 55.....the only people you see going 55 are the elderly...some of them anyway....brokedown pickup trucks and other POS cars that were even going 55 when it was 70 for that is as fast as they can travel safely.....

Its all just BS and we all know it. there is no doubt someone getting a kick back from all this crap....some politition for sure.

That's not exactly the most balanced discussion of the issues I've ever seen. I don't especially like the 55 limit either, but it's not a cut-and-dried good thing vs. bad thing. The biggest problem is not emissions from your average small car, but from big rigs, which produce radically more of the relevant emissions at 70 mph than at 55 mph.

I do drive a little slower than I used to, but certainly not 55...

Sir Nuke May-3rd-2002 07:23 PM

I just go with the flow....whatever speed that is....if you know how to drive...and do it defensively.....you are actually better off driving the same speed as the cars around you then putting along at the actual speed limit. HOWEVER....if its really late...or say out on 288 at some time other than rush hour and the traffic is very sparce....I stick much closer to the posted speed limit....no need it tempting fate.....not to mention....I have a LOT of things I would rather do with a saturday afternoon than sit in a defensive driving course to get the ticket voided.

:{D

In new mexico the speed limit is 75 mph, nothing like gettin an 18 wheeler up your ass

Sir Nuke May-4th-2002 01:39 AM

Not to long ago I took a trip west....I didn't even realize that speed limits were higher than 70....till I left texas and crossed into NM...and it was 75....as it was in Colorado....and in Wyoming, and Idaho....but the best yet then was the speed limit signs in Montana, which I have heard have changed...but then the DAYTIME speed limit was posted on big signs as "reasonable and prudent".....omg a frickin free for all!!! lol but the nighttime speedlimit was still 55. but you could make some serious time during the day!!!! :{D

Travis May-4th-2002 01:14 PM

I would have to take advantage of that..Set Cruise Control on 140 heheheh (very unsafe, but we could work around that) :D

Sir Nuke May-4th-2002 09:13 PM

I am not so sure you could do that...lol I also saw these HUGE billboards with a trooper on them and they were lookin sorta mean and point their finger ....like they were pointing it at whom ever was lookin at the board and the caption was...."THERE IS A LIMIT"....LOL I think they were trying to tell you it was THEIR judgement as to what was PRUDENT!.....

Sir Nuke May-4th-2002 09:14 PM

oh yeah...and at THAT time....if you got nailed for speeding on a INTERSTATE...the fine was only $5 and you paid the trooper...and if you were on a state highway it was $10.....what a deal!!! bet its changed now.

Travis May-5th-2002 11:18 AM

omg that would so be fun :) But I would most definately buy a faster car, so the cop couldn't catch me, because I could see a buttload of cops sitting on that interstate waiting for people  :D

Sir Nuke May-5th-2002 04:28 PM

Actually the entire time I was in the state the only one I saw was in a rest stop.....and the one on the signs...lol

Bruce95fmla May-11th-2002 12:11 PM

In new york the speed limit in the city and 5 boroughs is 50 mph and some places 55 mphs , wich sucks totall ass, I mean noone does this speed limit , seriously it sucks big time ... anyway ...
upstate the speed limit moves up to 65 in some places and 60 in others(rare) and then stinking 55mph ,,.. As for how many people do 55, is another joke to be told

That's kind of like in Atlanta, downtown the speed limit is 55 but if you drive 55 you will be run over. The traffic runs about 85. It's fun driving downtown at 85 with 200 other people. Kind of like NASCAR.

Last couple times we went to New Mexico we didn't even see a cop. Last time we got back into Texas we got pulled over for going 80 in a 70. Didn't get a ticket though. Some hick driving an DPS F150 that looked about 20 years too old to be a cop. If the states so worried about emissions how come cops are still driving F150's, V8 Camaros, and V8 Crown Vics (all with modified exhaust systems so they can catch us)? Bastids.

Besides, here in Houston I still get passed by cops (and I am damn sure over the limit). There should be a law where we can pull them over for speeding if their lights aren't on.

craigrrrp May-18th-2002 10:23 AM

:rofl:....omg that would be fun i would be pulling cops over all the time......"license and proof of insurance please...and is there a reason you were going 20 over the speedlimit".....*real evil grin*...that would be very tasty
