PIAA 40 Driving/Fog Lights Installation Guide for MP5

All:

By your request, I created a fairly decent installation manual for those of you who would like to replace the stock factory fog lights with that of PIAA 40's.

Great job

Thanks! I'm curious to see how many people will do this mod now. I basically did this mod like 3-4 times. Now with the instructios I posted, I think someone could do this in about an hour.

curious, looking over you pictures again. where the screw head on the side hitting the inner sides of the bumper. And it looks like
your lights are sticking out much further than stock. For me I had
to shave the screw head so it won't scratch the sides. And why
use all those washers. Why not just do this, use two nuts to
do your adjustments. the one does the adjustment and the
other locks it in place. Just a thought

>>your lights are sticking out much further than stock

That was a version 1 picture. It looks stock now. I just updated the pix on the web site as well.

>>shave the screw head so it won't scratch the sides

Yeah, but a piece of black felt (roundies) on top of each will make it not scratch.

>>Why not just do this, use two nuts to

I don't understand - please explain.

Thanks for the guide. I will get Hella FF200-they just a bit smaller and have clear lenses which would match jewel type headlights.

I am unsure why you would get the Hella over the PIAA driving light?! I'm sure if the mounting bracket is the same you should have no problem, but why Hella?

I guess that's brand loyalty-I had Hella 500 fogs (~6.5" diameter) and they kicked ass-beam was wide to illuminate 4 lane highway and long enough to make low beams unnecessary(on Escort)!
Second-free form reflector is superior to focused lens type. Hella 500 were same type as PIAA 40-with focused lens, I can just imagine what kind of light output free form refelctor on 200 will give.

The PIAA 520 SMR light will also work. They have that clear lens you are talking about. The only set back to these are that they are a little more expensive and there is an extra step involved. The extra step is to remove the trim ring. Esentially they are the same lamp as the 40 series. Also with the 520 lamps you could also get the Ion crystal lenses that look very cool on the yellow cars.
