COMPLETED: Clear Celica Bumpers for P5
 

WOOHOOO, its about time, finished putting on the 2000 celica bumper lights on my p5 today. Im not gonna write up an extemsive how-to but here are some pics and ill answer all the questions you guys have so bring em on. Please mods excuse the massive amount of pics, i tried to take into consideration people on modems but i didnt want photo quality to suffer cuz i know a lot of people want to do this mod. So anyways basically what i used to secure the two screws into our empty holes was a very simple washer/nut combination. I tightened it all the way down to secure them and to close up as much gap as possible. I had to take some sand paper to a few parts on the back of the lights but it was pretty easy. just try fitting the lights on and youll easily see which parts you need to sand down. It would be even easier if you had a dremel tool sander but not needed. I used 80 grit paper. i had 320 but i didnt care if it was smooth, its not like you can see it or feel it from the outside. So anyways, theres a little gap and you cant get it completely flush but the gap is so small its not really noticable. i dont think it will matter either if water gets in cuz the light has that rubber seal to the actual housing. So anyways. here it is, got the lights for $30 and the nuts and washers for like 80 cents (USD, hehe). Also, i highly reccomend you change the stock bulb, its and UGLY yellow. like its so hotrrible. I wish i had amber bulbs but whatever im too lazy. Oh yea, another important thing. getting to the passanger side light is a freakin pain. you have to remove the 3 screws on the bottom part of the car and even some of the protector from your wheel well. dont even think about coming down from under your hood. Hope this all makes sense. Bring on the questions...

Nice job and nice car but that gap, although noticeable only 2 me, would probably bug me. Hopefully someone will make some for us in the future.

yes yes, it does bug a little but no one has noticed until i pointed it out. but im slowly forgeting it. Im gonna take pics of my car tomarrow probably. The gap really isnt that big and really doesnt matter, i just stressed it so you guys would know n stuff.

Future plans for the car by the way are shaved door and emblems and gonna repaint it silver with a copper or bronze pearl

ya know, i was gonna take a pic of that but decided not to. theres three holes one big square in the middle with two smaller squares on each side of the bigger square. just remove the bumper light really quick and take a look. the best way uve found to remove it is to pry the light outward with a screwdriver from the rear of the light housing. like if you were runing a flathead screwdriver from the rear of the light to the front. also, if you do run a screwdriver from the back to front. make sure you dont scratch the paint. just pry it up enough to get your finders in there and then pull hard as hell!! dont be afraid of breaking it. just make sure your pulling outward on the BACK of the housing and not front. the back is where the pressure connector is

When you talk about sticking a screwdriver behind the light. You mean on the outside of the bumper right? but, why do you then talk about taking out some screws for the pass side light?

Where is it that you tighten the nut and washer on? The two things sticking up on the backside of the signal? What are those things sticking up?

dont know if i completely understand your question but here goes, help me if i misunderstood....

Ok so the 3 screws im talking about for the pass side are on the very bottom/underside of the car. Its part of the plastic weather protector that you have to sorta like peel back to stick your hand up into the passanger side light. For the screwdriver, i sorta had to pry the stock ones off like using a flathead and working it around the edges, I ALSO had to push it out from inside the bumber. Like i got a long screwdriver and just pushed against the light housing really really hard for it to pop out. And, for tightening to washer/nuts what you do is you have to use a bunch of washer on the Celica screw studs as theres a big gap. So each light has 2 screw studs, so you need two nuts per light and however many washers to kill the space. Those things sticking up from the celica clears are like screws basically that are mounted into the light housing. Its fairly simple, hope this all made sense...

I know what screws you're talking about I'm just wondering WHY? would that plastic need to come off if the lights can be taken off from the outside. Aprox how many washers are needed? 2, 4, 10, 20? on one or both?

well you gotta take those off so you can reach your hand up there cuz its too hard to access from above through the hood. Also, washers depend, i used like 4 per screw so thats like 8 per light and 16 all together, sounds a little ghetto but it does the job.

I'm sorry for still bugging but I still don't understand why I would stick my hand up in there if I can pull it out with a screwdriver.
To assist the screwdriver? The screwdriver thing is done from the inside?

if your stlil talking about the passanger side....Ok the reason why you need to stick your hand up there is after you put on the aftermarket clear housing, you need to reach up the inside of the car to scew on the screw. How can you screw a screw on from the outside of the car if its inside the bumper? get it sorta? hope it helps, dont wory, i dont mind questions. Put it this way, if you dont get it still, just try it and you will see why you need to stick your hand up there towards the end. when removiing the light, however, you dont have to pop it out from the inside if you can pry it off from the outside. Reaching up into the car is refering to screwing on the aftermarket lenses

Another alternative is to use the 95-99 Eclipse/Talon front clear signals. They actually work better and are the same size as the factory P5 ones. Just reverse the sides (ie, use the Eclipse left side marker on the right side of the Pro and vice-versa.)
