Tuning in Russia
Just for general information I've decided to give you all people an insight on the most popular tuner cars in Russia and how to mod them. Here we go!
Since the cheapest cars are Russian cars, they are the most popular tuner/race cars (cuz if you crash it, you don't feel that sorry). As an example we'll take a look at the Lada-08 which has been discontinued but you can find a used one at the local used car dealership. http://www.lada-auto.ru/cgi-bin/view...preview&id=223 On the image is the Lada-13 which is exactly the same as the 08 except the front is slightly redesigned. This car in stock (top of the range) shows the following numbers: 1500cc 24 valve 90 hp Manual 5 speed tranny 0-60 mph - 14.5 sec Cost: $10 000 Lets look into the mods. Suspension: Koni Sport adjustable struts - $500 Eibach springs - $200 Front strut tower bar - $100 Rear strut tower bar - $150 Reinforced front stabiliser rod - $100 Reinforced rear stabiliser rod - $100 Reinforced strut mounts - $250 Reinforced ball bearings - $100 Reinforced links - $100 Engine Bore the block to 1650 cc - $1000 Reinforced shortened pistons - $500 Increased motion crankshaft - $300 (this gives us about 1750 cc) Port and polished head - $300 Increased angle of acsent camshafts- $500 Exhaust headers - $200 Cat back exaust system - $150 Modified intake manifold (4 throttle bodies with an extra set of injectors) - $1000 New ECU - $500 Tranny Race gear train - $300 Race gear couple - $250 6th gear - $600 (some maniacs install a rally-type sequential tranny costs about $2000) Ceramic clutch - $250 Slip differential block - $200 Exterior New body kit (the one on the foto is the Miller Pilot kit) - $500 Aluminium wing - $150 Custom optics - $300 Rims and tires - $1000 Interior A couple of bucket seats - $500 Extra gauges - $250 Sports steering wheel - $150 At a total of $21000 we get the following car (please don't laugh): Tuned car pic 1 Tuned car pic 2 And now the numbers are something like this: 1750 cc (1500 in stock) 220 - 260 hp (depending on the chip tuning and the camshafts) (90 in stock) 0-60 mph - 6 - 8 secs (depending if you removed some of the uneeded stuff to lose weight) 1/4 mile - 11 secs Note: no turbo. However it is possible to install it, top HP reasched on these cars was 320 with a garret turbo kit! Enjoy! |
interesting. reminds me a bit of the honda "ricing" scene around here. where they pretty much take an old beat up honda (trash it when its broken) and start throwing money into it.
|
The good thing about these cars, is that you don't feel too sorry if you crash it...the car is build to win races and it earns the money back...
|
yup.
judging by those pics. they are the equal of hondas over here. lol. |
No! They are deffinately not like hondas they are SO MUCH WORSE!!! When the car comes of the conveyor, it's about 60% complete...the rest is up to the owner...and the most reliable part in a Russian car, is a foreign car stereo...
|
Interesting. I don't understand how they can get 24v out of a 4-cylinder? Does it have 6 valves for each cylinder? Or is it a VERY small 4-valve V6?
I don't understand why Russia would make such a cheap car. I think they should pursue building a higher quality vehicle, that would be worth exporting to other countries.. It's not like they don't have the resources/know how to do it. |
Oops, sorry bout that, 16 valves...
For export they build a different model that is still cheap but is assambled a bit better and doesn't break as often. For the inner market, they don't give a sh*t... A friend of mine bought a new russian car recently, after one week his engine block cracked... They have the resources, they know how to do it, they just don't! WHat for? There are so many imports available... |
Is the 0-60 really that fast stock? It seems pretty fast for only having 90hp and only being 10k in price.
|
that 0-60 time isnt suprising..
i mean look at the car.. theres nothign to it. it probably isnt affected by weight so that 90hp may go a lil better. even tho I think my truck could get to 60 faster than that. lol. |
