Oh man, I can't believe some people aren't liking this. This thing is gorgeous! In case you haven't figured it out, this is the concept for what will be the Protege5 replacement.

how are you supposed to open the doors? does the silver part pushes into the door? "D-Pillar" sucks, looks like a Vibe but the interior is nice.

pantherES March-6th-2003 03:50 PM

I REALLY like the interior. The rest of the the car....... I don't like.

I love the car. I think it looks awesome.:bigthumb:

BUT I REALLY WANT TO SEE THE SEDAN.:yell: Where are the 'carshow' pics for the sedan?

leungwingkei March-8th-2003 12:47 AM

interior looks too busy, the 6 is much simpler and cleaner.

the exterior makes it look like a suv.

spammy56 March-8th-2003 02:21 AM

Wow!

That car is to die for! Civic, Corrolla and Jetta are dead! The interior looks very up market to me. It is interest ing that the interior of a small car puts the interior of a Lexus (IS300) to shame. Go Mazda!

Makaveli March-8th-2003 07:10 AM

that looks sweet. I love the outside and the inside...... simply amazing!

NegatiZE March-18th-2003 08:48 PM

I think the door handles will be redesigned for the production model. They'll probably have pull-style doors like the Mazda6 and RX-8.

boricua March-24th-2003 08:10 PM

I think its hot, looks almost like a smaller 6.

I'd like it a lot more if it were another vehicle in the lineup, not a replacement for the P5. Let that compete with the vibe/matrix/element, but keep the sleek, small, P5! :(

redrims March-24th-2003 11:57 PM

Yeah, the P5 was an awesome car. They got rid of it in only 2years. It never really had a chance.

2001ProtegeLX April-15th-2003 02:23 AM

This new 3 is sweet!

Very sleek styling, like the RX330 trend.

Very muscular and customized look.

Beautifully designed exterior with smooth and elegant curves.

Nice dual exhaust tips.

Looks better than the Matrix (and a lot better than the Element).

Nice drop and rims.

Interior is a bit too busy (another one has mentioned this) or business-like. Hope a lighter color will do.

Hope AWD and Mazdaspeed versions will be on their ways.

Emerald99ES April-15th-2003 12:43 PM

Too bad Mazda didn't have the foresight to import the 5-door to the US until 2002 -- then there'd be plenty more used ones available for us!! I have seen pics of the '99 -'00 edition available elsewhere in the world, and probably would have picked one of those if they had been available here when I bought my used '99 sedan. At least Mazda USA seems committed to this body style for Gen4 and beyond! Just hope they don't screw up the sedan. :o

There's just one thing to remember when looking at concept cars. They are eXactly what they sound like... concepts! The actually production version will most definetely be different for many complicated factors. In this concept the reason the door handles are shaved or futuristic looking is for the public to get excited about it. (along with some other radical attempts in this concept)

There are many design elements in this car that make it difficult to create (through a manufacturing point of view) and through a financial stand point as well.

The choice of materials and the overall proportions of the car will DEFINETELY be scrutinized and re=worked to make the car "sleeker" and less "busy" looking as well as making the car affordable to the buying public.

Thats all i really have to say... just dont get your hopes up, when the New MAZDA 3 (sportif) comes out not EXACTLY what u thought it would look like.... but most likely the production car will be very hot, and should be just as or better looking than this concept (i hope:o ) ... watch them srcew it up like other "anonyous" manufacturers.....lol

I like the interior, for the 1st time a mazda has some sort of luxury look ,,, neither p5 nor the protege's have a luxury look

have you looked at the interior of civic, previous corolla, sentra?
proteges (at least the 5) are a step above them. again, p5 is not a luxury car and when you want luxury interior, you gotta pay for it. people buy proteges because they are cheap cars not because they are a competitor to lexus...

Bruce95fmla June-13th-2003 08:20 PM

1st of all ,, I expect nothing but the best out of life..
So if I am going to be paying for a cheap car , then it better have the best cheap parts in it ...
This is the reason why I liked the interior ... It looks classy .. I never said the interior of a 5 was not classy ... it is ok ,, not fully classy .. I would say more sporty than classy. still a good thing by me. But I just like the look of that interior in the picture. I love when you jump in your car and you have this nice fealing of comfort.

Ok take a look at this interior .. the steering wheel look nice, has all the controlls that you need to controll everything on the steering wheel . The shifter has that nice leather boot with a very classy shift knob. the ebrake is well placed.. the side door panels I would need a better look at , but from the angle they look ok ..
The dash I also like and I could really see my passengers likeing also .. In approx. 1.5 or less years I am going to be getting another car.. something newer .. but if mazda can keep my interest then I will stay with them. Otherwise I will step things up to a IS300(rear wheel drive power) or a Acura CL... We will just have to see what mazda can come up with ...

I agree with you but my point is that you just can't expect to get an is300 or acura like interior in a protege. of course the new 323 has a better interior then p5 and protege as well as it should. its a newer car and we should be moving ahead, not back right. look at the interiors of the cars from the 70s. i don't know about you guys, but i am scared to get inside. that interior looks good but it doesn't mean it will make it into the production car.
