Feeding the animal - what other car are you thinking about buying?

Well, I have been having a lot of fun doing the Protege thing. 32,000 miles of good times, in fact. But, I am thinking about the big "what next?". Not, "what will the next mod be?", but "what will the next car be?". I have lately had this crazy idea, that I could drop about 10G on a nice, older Vette in good condition. I figure a 1979-80 4-speed Vette, with the L-82 engine sounds about right. Reasonably quick, with those outrageous pontoon fenders framing the road ahead of me. Heck, I figure I will even track down a set of reproduction Rallye wheels, if the car doesn't already have them. Replace the weather seals, if they are dry rotted. Go to town on the single most easily modified engine in world history - the venerable 350 small block V8. Not that I would give up my Mazda for this sunny day cruiser. But, I think it is almost time to throw another log on the fire, if you know what I mean. Feed my animal addiction to automobiles. Maybe in a year or so, I can. What about you folks? What else are you hoping to put in your garage?

I have been thinking that after i get my degree and settle my fat ass in a nice comfortable management chair in a nice air conditioned office i want to get a Cadillac CTS - V. Its that kind of car you get if a kid inside of you wants that childhood obsession - a vette, but your family demands a sedan. You still get that vette performance but in a comfort of a sedan....

I am having a hard time not trading in my car for a new mustang GT. I just love the look and the sound. True is low on the hp side but you can always fix that. On the other hand I to am a HUGH vett fan. My favorit is the 71 ZR1. VERY VERY rare! So much I'll never get one, but I might clone it. The bad thing is that the 71 vett is the it car and a good one will set you back about 30-40k.
And then there is the family out door guy in me thats saying to keep the protege and pay it off buy an old 4x4 and a travel trailor get 2 4wheelers for me and my son. Plus when I buy a house (hopfully soon!) I'll need one.

So I'm really at a fork in the road!

Keep the P5, get a truck (you need a truck, everybody needs a truck), buy your house, then sell the P5 and get the GT that's out then when all the kinks and bugs are worked out.

I'm holding out on buying another car until the G35 GT-R comes out in 07....I don't think anything will match/beat it's performance for the money...but things change in between now and then...I remember when I was all hot and bothered by the MS6...now I wouldn't buy one for anything more than $25K.

My sweetie and i have avowed we will get a 350Z. But it is the future - after 200K on the Pro (retired at that point to be my SCCA beater!)

I also need a Beach Assault Vehicle for fishing the Outer Banks of Carolina. Probably a Durango (pre-03) but i really want a Tow-Rag (VW Taureg!)

sigh. Yup. It is a animal ah'ight!

Man by the time I can actually buy another car there is no telling what I’ll want. I saw a picture of what might be the new Z28 Camero and it like the Mustang is a retro style car and looks even better then the ford. Who knows!
I do know I want a house with a 10-car garage HAHA, I only need 2 bedrooms 1 bath in the house. I would be spending all of my time in the garage anyways so why spend the money on it!

A brand spankin' new car with a sophisticated chassis could go a long ways towards changing that belief. Afterall, the image you created above doesn't apply to the latest Mustang, does it? For that matter, a mint original late sixties Z-28 doesn't connote that image either. Doing the right thing is the General's responsibility.

I think a nice, retro, kick-ass American GT with fully independant suspension, a stiff platform, reasonable curb wieght, great transmission and brakes, powerful V8, and bold/attractive styling would go a long ways towards fixing the image problem over at General Motors. The GTO is almost there. If it weren't for the nondescript styling and compromises inherent in using the old Catera platform, it could have been the contender that GM needs. I say give the GTO a heavy reskin, fix the ergonomic problems, and slap a Camaro badge on it.

yup camaro's were faster...sure were. They were still junk though. Big engine doesn't equal quality car.

I read that article about the "new camaro" and couldn't find any info about powertrains, chasis refinement, cost, etc...only that it's just as expensive to update an old chasis as it is to design a new one.

Also, the tore down the manufacturing plant...not a promising sign. Any idea how much it would cost to re-tool an exsisting plant for camaro production or build a new plant?? Well, if they build a new camaro plant maybe they'll do it in the USA now. Almost doesn't seem right to have something called "America's Pony Car"...made in Canada..

Well to each there own. I had two of them, a 78 and a 97 and they both drove great, handled great and stopped ass on the road.

Roddimus Prime April-21st-2005 02:53 PM

yeah, everyone likes what they like but I have a hard time believeing it handled great!! those things were long sticks with no turning radius'
