2004 mazda 3 ... please look

hey, I haven't been on the board in a while and tried a search but found nothing of any use. I know the protege will be replaced by the 3 and I have seen some rederings of the new "protege 5" and "protege sedan". My question was does anyone have any solid info on pictures, release dates, prices, specifics, etc ... thanks in advance to everyone.

Opus June-3rd-2003 07:48 PM

All I've seen is that concept car, I think they called it Sportif or something, that's supposed to replace the P5. Supposedly it will have a choice of engines. But I think it's a 2005 model, not 2004. Where did you see pictures of the sedan?

Opus June-3rd-2003 07:49 PM

Here ya go, just found this with a search:

phat_mats June-3rd-2003 08:36 PM

yah I found this before ... it has very limited details. Poor translation and nothing really solid in facts except for the engine. I found a couple pics of a potential interior I'll see if I can post em up. I'm surprised there isn't more discussion on this ... the new models will be out in the next few months.

these pictures of of the new wagon obviously. I can't find anythign on the sedan nor can I confirm if these pictures are the real deal. No one out there ha any solid info at all?

pluto316 June-3rd-2003 09:46 PM

I actually think the P5 is better looking the way it is now. That's just my opinion.

Opus June-3rd-2003 10:13 PM

Edmunds.com has a very brief preview of it, nothing new really. They say the wagon will be introduced first, followed by the sedan. Sounds backwards to me, I would think the sedan would have wider appeal to drivers.

And this thread has alot of pictures:
http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/sho...threadid=21767

I know it's been discussed more on this board, but unfortunately you cant search for "Mazda 3" because "3" is too short.

Myself, I'll withold judgement until I actually see it. I wasnt impressed with the Protege5's looks from pictures, but that all changed when I saw it in person. But I can already say this new car wont work for me; the roofline slopes too much, wont be good for carrying my kayak. Guess I'll just have to get a 6 wagon. :)

Opus June-3rd-2003 10:24 PM

And still more info, from www.autonews.com:

Protege
The redesigned 2004 Protege will share a platform and components with the next-generation Ford Focus and the Volvo 40 series but will resemble neither car.

Prototypes show an exaggerated arch roofline mated to a stubby hood and trunk. Both a sedan and five-door hatchback version will come to the United States.

Mazda will attempt to lure enthusiasts with its next generation of high- horsepower four-cylinder engines that it is developing for Ford. The engines will displace 2.0 and 2.3 liters.

Mazda says production of the 2004 Protege will start early in 2003.

From Detroit News Auto Insider (with spy photo?!)
http://info.detnews.com/autosinsider...x.cfm?myrec=73

Plus I read on one site that the new Miata is going to share the Rx8 platform.

If anyone out there has more Mazda3 info let's try to piece it together in one place.

phat_mats June-3rd-2003 11:25 PM

yah this is all good. thanks for the replies. so the sedan will arive at the same time as the sportif? or later? i've seen conflicting statements. I personally hope it arrives at the same time becasue I don't want a 5 door ... I want a sedan and I want one soon. The protege is not appealing to me if it's going to look outdated in a metter of months. I concure with the post above ... lets get what info we have together and see if we can figure it out.

mygreenmazda June-4th-2003 12:57 AM

Dont like it, the p5 looks better. They should have kept the p5 and just get the engine to about 150hp.

Gotta admit the P5 looks a lot better than the Sportif, especially the back end. It's a shame that Mazda didn't just plug the new engines into the Proteges (especially since they put it in the Focus in non-VVT form 148hp, 152 ft.lb).

tonkabui June-4th-2003 02:39 AM

hmm... can't believe i'm saying this... but the new shape is growing on me. i guess it is like the rsx... i hated it when i first saw it. now it grew on me and i like it a lot. same thing happened when the integra got those round headlights. i still think it's ugly, but it grew on me. the interior is sooo sweet though. looks like my sister's a4. the backend needs a little revision still, though.

jjac28 June-4th-2003 07:45 AM

great looking car. but whats with the ugly gauges?
they remind me of the vibe and matrix!
the protege5 looks v. different and just as nice. the production ran for only 2 years so the pro5 look will be unique in its look out there on the streets. not too many people will drive them.

kenchan June-4th-2003 10:49 AM

humm... i think i like the new design, but not the tail lights. never was a fan of those euro-type lights.

also, i noticed this on the Rx8 as well, but the tailight shape
does not work with the contour of the car's lines.. it doesnt
follow it and there is no consistency in the lines vs the body.

that part i dont like about the cars. otherwise, with a more
powerful motor, i think it'll look like a poorman's Murata or FX45.

its a nice design, but still only a mazda.

Farsyde June-4th-2003 11:20 AM

oh god it looks like a friggin minivan. Leave the 5 alone. The guages look cool though. Looks like they were stolen outta the rx-8

phat_mats June-4th-2003 08:32 PM

right ... well this post was not meant to bash the design, idea etc . I put the pics up to get some hits. I'm more looking for solid info. Mosty know that we know that sedan pictures are not avialable, when will they be? When can we expect the sedans to be released. Like I said earlier nissan already has 04 models out and mazda has not ever released pictures. I'm starting to wonder if the sedan will be released as an 04 at all. ???

*warning*rant*warning*

aaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggg...does it piss anyone else off that they are discontinuing our car after only two years of production (i didnt splurge on a new car for the first time ever to have an outdated style and non-production car)...i just find the fact that this incredibly successful model for mazda is being ditched already is kind of...well stupid, i guess its obvious that ford owns mazda now...

im so incredibly pissed about this that im seriously considering selling my car...god damned abovreiajlkfshdg padrhgwre hskdvddnvjkash

alright sorry rant over

jjac28 June-5th-2003 07:36 AM

yeah but your car will be unique. you dont want your protege to become like honda civic do you?

but it sure doesnt make sense for the company to do that....look at cavalier. the newer version came out in '94 and it basically is still the same car, it's selling well and making gm good money

UCSBgeek June-5th-2003 02:42 PM

The protege5 was already out overseas for longer. So only in the US market did it last so short. Toobad there's no Mazdaspeed Protege5 :(

Soon P5 is mine June-6th-2003 11:15 AM

mazda 3 spy video........

i stumbled on this while looking for some mazda sites. this video is not official but it shows some similarities to the pictures in this thread. i think presonally this car is ugly as F**K and this gives me another reason to get a p5 QUICK!!!. look for yourself.

KHH June-6th-2003 05:00 PM

I don't think it is as high roofed as it appears to be. It has a little Alfa Romeo in the design. I like it...looks muscular, but not too rounded. I certainly like it better than the few pictures of the new 3 sedan. (if they were accurate)

aceraj June-7th-2003 01:24 PM

I think they look pretty cool. but does anyone agree with me that they look a whole lot like the new infiniti fx35 and fx45? Could be just me but o well.

what pictures of the 3 sedan? could you post them please?

KHH June-8th-2003 01:28 PM

Negatize had posted a picture of a sedan some months ago. I searched for the post, but the pictures are no longer hosted. Might try PM'ing him to see if he still has them...

It looked like a Jetta:(

phat_mats June-8th-2003 09:36 PM

thanks for trying ... it;s weird mazda has not released official photos of the sedan by now.

maybe they're in denial

phat_mats June-10th-2003 12:17 AM

haha maybe ... I mean how long can it be before these things hit showrooms ... october/november at latest. you'd think we would have heard/seen something by now. Or am I crazy?

Bruce95fmla June-10th-2003 06:10 PM

I am interested to see what the sesale value of the p5 will be like once this new model comes out ...

phat_mats June-15th-2003 03:53 AM

yeah resale will obviously go down ... shitty if you wanna buy out at the end of your lease becasue it will probably be no where near the same value ... anyway still awaiting those sedan pics ... back to the top ... late night bump ... etc

bougha June-17th-2003 09:22 AM

I recently read on the paper that Mazda 3 MPS is gonna to be released 2005 . That car is going to have 2L engine w/ turbo. Let's see if this is true...

phat_mats June-17th-2003 09:48 AM

bump for more info as it becomes available

phat_mats June-20th-2003 02:00 AM

bump again ... this is getting a little bit crazy I'm anxious to see some pics but can't seem to find any. anyone?
