will be exploring the world of a turbo 1.5L soon

After speaking with Marcin , who owns a 1g turbo protege with a gtx motor (really wicked)(recently at the kent CT meet) he was letting me know that I could get a manifold made for a decent price, so basically what I am going to try and do is sit down , pay off some bills and then plan out this turbo project, I have a lot to learn in this venture so i plan to use the 1.5L to do this as the parts for the 1.5L are easily accesible due to them selling so many ,, know I was thinking a T3/T4 as this is what I hear most of you guys speak about, i need to get a book of some sort on this though , hmmm ...... hence it starts ,,,

Yes, lets keep this alive! I've tried with Braden last year, but things ran so slow... people back up with money deposit and noe seems that Braden does not have a 1.5 available to work on.

Anyhow, Its nice to hear from you Bruce, you totally disapeared from the protegetech group. How is it going man, I missed our discussions about ours cars!!

sweet bruce!

but T3/T4 turbo on that 1.5 liter? nah... imo id go with a T25 or something with a better spool rate so that it spools up quicker so the power is there quicker.

i assume you're gonna run an intercooler? what type of hp are you looking to run? thisll be intresting!

I did not set in stone what turbo I would use , but I like your idea there, I would like something that is efficient , yet not to strong, to where it would stress the internals .. until I get a hand on another 1.5L and work on the internals ..

I do plan to run an intercooler , something on the small side, yet efficient , because I would like to stay low key , . All the gauges and so forth will most likely have a custom home in the glove box.
I am going to talk and keep in contact with Marcin though , but for now I will start looking for a Turbo in good shape , for my experimenting ,, if I can get this project of the ground it would be a good learning curve, ....
I would like to get most of the pipping done by this same guy that way I could maybe get a good deal on other manifolds for my other 1.5L buddies ... but time will tell on that ,,,, .....
for other 2nd gen guys check the forum for the carbon fiber hoods , my friend Brendon in florida is trying to get a group together for some hoods ... I will post in the proper section

all coments are welcome,, especially about choice of turbo..
being as the protege 1.5L came stock with 92hp and 106(est)tq . I figure I would make way more torque than I will hp ,, so I figure I would hope for about 140-160hp and whatever torque I can get ....

Nice Bruce, I think you should get your hands as soon as you can on a manifold. That is by far the pain in the @ss thing to get (IMO). I would stick with a garrett T3. 120 HP is easily get without any complicated changes in the motor, above it though I'd think a better fuel control would be needed, etc, etc.....

Wow , marcio , I know it has been a while since we last spoke , but I have been working some serious hours , and recently took a trip to Miami Beach , and had a ball ,, ... but the manifold believe it or not , may not be my hardest part, mainly cause Marcin was telling me , Ihave enough room in the engine bay to hold the turbo and manifold , with the 1.5L , i may just need to use some thinned out radiator and a/c fans..

Anyhow , i am looking into some factory wheals though , mostly 15" rims , .. I am really happy with the handling of the car , with the mazdaspeed shocks , bg springs and the strut bars, I still have to install the rear bar though , but I have little time to do so ......

cool

I dont know if it would interest you but I have bought konigs racing 15" they are super light 10.9lbs each. Bought through a group buy 300 all 4, I think it was a good price. They look really nice and do not ancor the car under acceleration.

Bruce95fmla September-10th-2002 12:53 PM

Marcio , where did you get those wheals from , was it a website... and what do they look like

Marcio September-10th-2002 12:58 PM

they are the helium bronze racing wheels. You can see the pics here:

Turbo

hey Bruce, it's been awhile since we talked last, and it's been awhile since I've been on here. But I have to say your idea is great! Good luck in your project and let us all know how it's going. Damn, I might need to talk to Braden over on this side of the country, see what's up...

marciobusi September-10th-2002 07:10 PM

hey Bruce... bad news man... just found oil the coolant reservoir... nitrous blow up the engine????? Man I am nervous and sad... My car is selling this weekend with only 43k on it.

I was really throuwing that t3/t4 to see what people would say , but I will definelty look into a t3, I am wondering if I should buy the turbo first and then get the manifold made or vice versa, think it makes a difference
