Turbocharger for 2.0l

I subscribe to Grassroots Motorsports and in the latest issue it has an article about Flyinmiata's new Protege 2.0 Stage1 Turbo kit. The kit boost hp from 96whp to 149 whp and 108lb-ft to 173lb-ft of torque. The also said if a 2.25 inch cat-back exhaust is added the numbers would go to 167whp and with 191lb-ft of torque. The kit goes for $3595. The article also stated that the kit would work on a 1.8l with some plumbing mods done to the car. Flyinmiata plans to have 1.8l turbo kit also available in the near future. Here's the website:

I was wondering if anyone has this kit on their Protege?

Not sure... I think the manifold will probablly fit. But you would have to mod all the plumbing.

i coulda swore i read somewheres that hiboost was runnin on 12 psi all stock... but i donno. i think there was a new clutch but i think that was it. i just need to borrow $4000 from someone.

They run 12psi at the track, i think on 92 octane also.

All turbo'ed cars need to run 92 or higher octane.

You can run higher boost than 6psi but not with the FMU (at least its not recommended. It basically dumps fuel and I have heard it doesn;t work that great above 6 or 7 psi. You need a piggy back unit or something similar to manage the air/fuel ratio (amongst other things) with precision at higher boost levels. Supposedly the stock internals are good for 225 whp (the rods actually).

i was just saying that 92 oct. is low for 12psi and track use.
