Turbo question from the Philippines
 

Hi! i'm from the Philippines, our version of the mazda protege es is the ford lyn rx. It has an FSD 2.0L engine. My question is the injectors high impedance, what brand of injector could i replace my stock or equivalent, what model is it? what FMU is the better choice a greddy rebic 4 or a vortech FMU? lastly will a apexi safc or a greddy emanage work on my car?

I have seen a lot of guys here use Subaru WRX injectors. They are 440cc injectors and just plug and play with the car although you will need stand alone fuel management like Haltech to control them. The stock ecu won't do it.

FMU? the only way to go is the BEGi RRFPR. Unlike the vortech the BEGi will increase fuel pressure based on the amount of boost. The Vortech sees SOME boost and just dumps as much extra fuel as it can. This causes you to run rich in the middle of your powerband.

SAFC will not work, E-manage will but you will have to do some serious wiring and tweaking to make it work. I heard emanage was painful to try to make work. You should probably look for something called MPI Tuner. It's a cheap ($600-800) controller to allow fuel and timing control. I think with it you can run larger injectors. I'm not a fan of them but there are a few people using them.

thanks for the post. How about greddy's rebic4? do you have any suugestion on the stand alone or piggy back that could work for my car? have you heard about perfect power stand alone and piggy back computer?

I would recommend the Haltech right now when it comes to stand alone. Features can't be beat. The MPI tuner I mentioned is a modified Perfect Power PRS8. The one advantage it has over the Haltech is that there are some pre-tuned maps available for the protege but I don't know if I trust them 100%.

If you can find someone who can tune a haltech on the dyno I would go with that. Also, if you're looking to buy a Haltech I may be able to get you a real good price on the Haltech E6K.

I myself am holding out for the AEM. I've seen it working and it's hands down the best. Although its pricey at about $1500.

how much would the haltech cost? oh by the way the rebic 4 is an independent FMU. i thinks its similar to the RRFPR.

I think I can get the E6K Haltech for about $700+shipping. It's programable through a Windows-based laptop which makes it very easy to tune.

I'm not yet inclined in using a stand alone system, the boost the i will be having is around 7psi. i'm leaning towards using just a piggy back for now, any suugestions on a piggy back? any cooments on the greddy rebic4?

mpi tuner is the only piggy back I know of anyone using.

the best RRFPR on the market is the BEGi from Bell Engineering. www.protegegarge.com carries them.

The MPI tuner is sold through Modern Performance Inc. I'm not sure of their website but if you do a search on the web it should show up....make sure it's not the Neon site though. Different company.

I can't answer that question because I don't know about the greddy unit. I will say this: With a RRFPR and a voltage clamp you shouldn't need a piggyback ecu to run a few pounds of boost. Wagner's T3 turbo kit uses a voltage clamp and a FPR and it runs up to 8psi with no piggyback.
