Turbo in a auto?
I have a 91 LX AUTO Trans with 133K mi, should i even be considering a turbo, or would that just be stupid?
|
that would be stupid IMHO. not to be mean.

Convert it to a 5-speed.

5 speed conversion, do you know about how much that would cost?
|
Why is it stupid did someone tried it. I work in a transmission shop and i would take the chance. The only things you would have to check his to boost the oil pressure in the transmission so the clutch wouldn't slip for the differential it's the same has the manual so no real trouble there. You would also have to find a modified torque converter, the only trouble i see in doing it his that all the modification i just told you are nearly the same price has a manual conversion and it's a lot more fun manual

If you just dropped a BPT or boosted an exsisting BP you would have about 3 months of normal driving before problems arose. I dont remember who but somebody has tried and they got that result too.
But.... its your car and if you have the resources/will to expirement I would say do whatever you want. |

it's not stupid , it can be done ,,
it is just more prefered to go with the 5 speed tranny , but having a fast auto is sweet if you ask me Bruce |
well..
Personally me...i have a BPT in my Automatic 90'Protege LX. I dont see anything wrong with it. I have a completely rebulit tranny,a high stall torque converter, and new axles. The only reason the cars not runing right now is cause im still trying to get it wired up. Only problem i had doing this swap was that the oil pans for the Auto's are diff from the BPTs. The bpt has oil lines that go in and out the auto doesnt. and also the auto had a little cover that u take off to remove the torque converter scrrews, the bpt doesnt. So what i had to do was to cut a bigger hole where the starter goes in at to access the screws for the torque converter. All in all the engine went in fine and automatic. I think it'd be dope to spank a civic while driving with one had and sippin a soda in the other. . Sure a 5 speed would be funner but an automatic is just so more relaxin and chillin to drive.

Is it true its better to build up a BP rather than a GTX swap? If so what is the difference between the two engines? Hp, torque...etc. Which would be easier on an older auto trans?
|
blah blah blah, more restrictive heads on the BPT...blah blah blah. WE DON'T KNOW, best idea if for someone to actually dyno what their bpt or turbo setup dyno's at... i know for a fact that i have an automatic, i wouldn't race it, and i definately wouldn't see myself doing a turbo build up on my car. the bp engine is rated at 125 hp, but is this actually what you get? i mean, didn't somebody on the club dyno they're modded lx at .ess than 120, and even a base run with no mods was 103 hp? i have no clue. you're saying that swapping the bpt into an automatic would be asking for trouble? wouldn't building up an automatic bp be the more 'safe' way of doing a turbo setup? and when we're talking about building up a bp to a turbo, what parts are you using besides turbo, intercooler, boost controller, and intake? how is everything hooked up. i'm a junior on the entire matter, enlighten us please bruce, limpgtx...anybody?

turbo goes to manifold , manifold goes to cylnder head . vacum lines go to their respective places, oil line to and fromt turbo and oil pan , intake pipes run to their respective places. intercooler put in adequate place and pipes ran to their respective places. Proper boost gauges are ran, and boost set ... A few other things need to be addressed but putting a turbo on a auto is the same as on a 5 speed. look at the older mx-6s

I can remember rebuilding more 5 speed mx6 turbo's than automatics. I think it could work if you don't go to radical, maybe 5-6 psi of boost tops.
