Stock header for Turbo Manifold?3rd Gen

Sure, it's possible. You would obviously need to remove the primary cat, which might make things easier. If you cut the flange off of the stock primary cat, you could probably have the necessary flange welded to the piece you cut off. You need to have some metal fabrication skills or this may be expensive to have someone else do for you. You would need to pay close attention to turbo placement when welding the flange on the piece from the stock cat. I'm not sure about the fit there, or routing other necessary piping to that location.

I was looking to making my own turbo kit fo my Protege...I don't think there is enough room to put the turbo between the engine and the rad. A turbo also can run xtreem temps and youd probably end up melting the fan blades...thus leading to cooling probs...a turbo no-no!

Try routing the system to above the tranny mount at the front corner of the block...the only thing you'd have to re-route would be the upper rad hose(from what I figured so far)

It is possible to modify the stock manifold to a turbo header many Probers have done that but with our Proteges there is not enough clearance and too many tubes in teh way to place the turbo without interfeering. I thought about using the stock header in my kit and using an adapter flange.

In current phase no as the current phase is alot of drawings and prototype parts that aren't 100% complete. Like I said in my other post I am having delays...The Prototype car is my own Protege which is also my daily driver so I am having to find time to dissasemble the car whenever I can to work on it. I planned on building the downpipe this weekend but no luck. I have a flange made that would use teh stock header and the turbo would bolt to the flage...I may try fitting this just to see if it works and if it does I could offer it as an option to reduce the cost of the header....since the newer Pro's have 2 catalysts I could Eliminate the first cat and still be legal since the second cat is still in place. Same as what the bosal header does with the Ford Probes. We will see though I'm afraid that when I go to put the turbo in with the stock header I am going to hit lines and they will interfeer with the installation we will see though.
