I have been thinking about Turbo is it worth it with what I have already done.i have dynoed 161whp what would turbo do to that

Prob give u another 75-100whp if ur serious about power ...Jon 93lx

That's a really high for a (basically) stock engine. I see you have the DOHC head and ecu, but other than that the mods are pretty similar to what everyone else is running around here who's getting about 110-120whp (intake, exhaust, rx-7 vaf, etc.). I'm not calling BS, but just making a point.

It sounds like you're running really high compression or something to make that sort of power. Which is obviously not turbo friendly. Possibly you're drivetrain setup would yeild much much less power loss, but still 160hp is a lot.

But if you're running low enough compression to be turbo friendly, you could expect a good 'boost' in power with the right tuning. I'd say another 100whp easy for 5k.

But with power levels that high u risk transmission damage. Seems to be the weak point of this car ..Jon 93 lx

Yea, unless he swapped in the G-series tranny from the LX. I believe he still has the F-series since it's a DX, right? G-series are good for about 300ft/lbs I think.

G series are suppose to be good for 300 ft/lbs . But ive heard its all in how u drive it. My buddy just upgraded his turbo and bought a 50 shot that should put him over 300 hp prob around 375 So we will see what happens ..Jon 93 lx

there's a guy here in quebec that run a mx-3 turbo with the bp from a protege lx. He's suppose to but out 570 hp out of his engine but the transmission always give out. His car his in front page of Quebec tuning with all the spec of his car. Has i understand your going to break axles before you kill the transmission.

The guy at level 10 wrote me back with this..

Dear Sir,
We can bullet proof the transmission to handle up to 3 times the factory power. Shift quicker and firmer and last longer. OOh yeah it also becomes faster than a stick. It will also get rid of all the lag and the hesitation off the start and take off anywhere from 1/2-1 second off 1/4 mile times.
pts transmission system $3264.
pts torque converter upgrade $498.
only takes 2-3 business days and we do need your transmission!!!!!

Has anyone installed a level 10 transmission into there proteges? ...Jon93 lx

I was wondering if anyone ever tried automatic. With a good shift kit automatic can handle more punch then manual but the problem seem to be the differentiel in the case of the protege. My boss (work in a transmission shop) just rebuilded my manual transmission and told me to be carefull not to snap the clutch has the differentiel gear his not large enough to handle high rpm start. The differential in the manual and in the auto are basically the same.
