Nitrous.

I was thinking of installing nitrous on the 3, with WOT what do you think?

J-Protege June-10th-2007 03:40 AM

Crazy expensive and real dangerous. Plus the warranty issue. I wouldn't do it. Unless you have the money kicking around for a new engine just in case something goes wrong.
50+ ponies at the push of a button is a scary thought.

geez its like every performance option is bad news! what about vibrant headers? how much hp is that? im not worried about emissions, WA state doesnt test for them

J-Protege June-10th-2007 02:34 PM

Well, nitrous isn't really a performance increase in the long run. It's a sweet boost for a 10 second run, and then it needs to be refilled.

Unless you're a drag racer, it's not going to do much in a daily driver. It's illegal to use it on public roads in most areas.

Headers are a good idea. Keep that airflow moving. Hard to say what kind of HP number you'll put down, I don't have too many stats for the 3. However, if you can get that air moving, you'll see a difference.

Do a Cold air intake and cat back (remove the Cat if you can get away with it), then headers and a bigger downpipe.

The car should move a bit quicker after that. If it's still not enough, worry about more later on.

a good chip could also benefit you pretty well... i like your car alot i have a black m3...u got any other pictures of it or a car domain page?

J-Protege June-11th-2007 04:42 AM

I hope you mean like a Unichip ECU and not like an eBay chip...

check my myspace, theres an album about all the things ive done to my car, beggining with a stock pic of it at the lot.

Heres The Link

oh and i ordered vibrant headers and a downpipe today. im excited

J-Protege June-12th-2007 12:28 AM

Heh, that myspace is private. If you want to make a car page, CarDomain lets you make some cool ones, and easier to share because you don't need to add people to allow them to view it.

Congrats on the headers and such. I wouldn't be able to afford both at once like that! My car goes together peice by peice, haha.

well this is the biggest thing ive done so far, ive had my car for over a year now, and all i have performance wise, is intake and exaust. soon to be headers. then all my air flow should be good. do you think my car will run lean though? since the flow is so much faster, or will the ECU compensate for that?

J-Protege June-12th-2007 05:20 AM

The car is built for that! These are Mazdas, haha. Headers will throw a check engine light. There is a fix for it, that fixes the fuel mixture.
I'm not sure what it is, but someone should answer it.

TriggArisE June-13th-2007 02:44 AM

yeahhh i love my mazda even more now. looks like the headers come with a relocation kit to get rid of the check engine light

J-Protege June-13th-2007 05:23 AM

Yeh that's the benefit of buying from Vibrant and not eBay, haha.

I'm a big fan of nitrous and the 2.3L duratec is a lot more N20-friendly than the fs-de in the protege.

No more than a 75hp shot dry from a zex kit and I'd figure you'd be pretty safe. Although, I'm not 100% sure how a WOT switch will work on a DBW car. It may cut in and out whch would suck for performance.
