MSP Turbo on a MP5

Hey guys,

Need some advice from all of you FI experts out there. I basically a noob cause all of my cars were only modifed NA.
I might be buying a used MSP turbo, which includes the manifold, turbo itself, intercooler, pipes/tubes and nuts and bolts. I want to transplant that into my MP5.

1.) what other parts would I need? o2 sensor from FM? anything else?
2.) by having the jspec & MS cams, would it do any harm with a turbo?
3.) I also have a racing beat cat back, would this work well?
4.) I noticed that the MPS doesn't have a big can-looking 1st cat and looks like it has 2 cats but both look like the secondary cat(smaller one), anybody know anything about that?
5.) Has anyone even tried this? and is it worth it? MSP5 sounds pretty good :)
6.) any advice at all????

I have heard that the MSP uses a garrett t-25 which is a small turbo and that a T3 works better, but the t-25 spools up much quicker.

Thanks guys!

Need advice on the install and possible parts.
Regarding the fuel delivery, how did the FM and Spool kit compensate for that? Injectors? Would it be as simple as bolting on the turbo and voila???

Thanks the advice guys!

Get all the gaskets.

I think you'll be alright with the cams.

Do you have emissions tests in Vancouver? If not, Get rid of /gut your cats, or replace with a hi-flow cat. Turbos do not like back pressure.

It's worth it if YOU think it is. That's a judgment call.

T-25 vs. T3 Which can you get cheaper? Both are good for 200whp++

Hopefully I can get some of the parts at the Mazda Dealer, cause I sure I won't be able to get every part from the guy.
Unfortunitly, Vancouver does have emissions tests, So I'll have to have 2 cats to pass.

Thanks for the input!

I think you might run into some problems with that. As I recall reading, dealers will not sell MSP engine parts (more specifically the turbo parts) to non-MSP owners. You need to have the VIN (and car) in order to get parts.

I heard about that also.
I'm sure I can get the main parts such as the turbo itself/manifold/intercooler and piping, but I'm not sure if i'll be able to get every nut and bolt for the kit.

Would i need anything else for this setup?

...you may want to get the ecu, but i'm not sure there is that much of a difference, just my two cents...

Bruce95fmla April-23rd-2003 02:50 PM

Yeah Ecu can't hurt to get .. and you could probably replace one of your cats with a highflow cat , and try to make sure the muffler pipping is as straight as possible , no kinks ...
I honestly would go for it ,, just try to get him to throw in the ecu and ask him if it's ok if you borrow his vin for dealer purposses ,, lol (just kidding bout that last part , but I guess you can ask .)

would be nice if you could get some print outs of the schematics for the two cars ,, compare differences.. The Man may have the pdf's for both cars alread:rolleyes: god knows where he gets them from.. Just to make sure there are no big emission differences ...

You will also need the intake so you can install the detonation sensor. Without it you will have many problems. I guess you could drill a hole and tap it, then screw the sensor in.

You will need the ECU and the injectors. Since you are getting the turbo, and piping and intercooler and gaskets. nuts and bolts are really peanuts. Make sure you get the ECU and the injectors or something else to comepnsate for the boost. Hopefully you are talking about a low boost application, you may be safe with just an FMU and an inline pump with your stock ECU but not forever.

The injectors for the MSP, P5, ES, MP3 are the same. They are NOT 310cc as misprinted on the Mazda website.

While it is highly unlikely that you will be able to obtain one, the ECU would be nice. It supplies proper fuel for the turbo, whereas your P5 ECU will need to be tricked with the FM voltage clamp, and even this does not work in all conditions.
