Mazda 626 Turbo Kit
Hi everyone, im new here and probably wont stay for long, i was reffered to here in another automotive forum, well here is my questions:
My father bought a 2002 Mazda 626 a month or so ago, he was bent on getting the V6 model which has about 165 Horsepower, but backed out in the last second and got the 2-Liter 4 cylinder 125 horsepower model, the reason for this is the massive price reduction in the last second. I feel that this amount of power for a car this heavy is not enough. I need to know: -Type of turbocharger that will work with the engine -How much boost the engine can take -How much the turbo will cost I really feel that the car is underpowered for it's weight, and although my dad drives it to work and back every day, and im not even on the insurance, I still want to do something. What kind of a turbocharger would give at around 180-200 horsepower? Thanks guys. |
Im getting a mechanic to set it up, im just asking what is the best turbo for this type of engine.

You coould try the BEGI turbo kit from flyin'miata for the the Protege 2.0L FS-DE engine. I think the 626 uses the same engine, albeit a slightly undertuned version.

You'll need to use a RPM based trigger such as one made by MSD to control the dual stage manifold from the Protege. You should be able to get one dirt cheap at a junk yard. Just be sure to get the throttle body, related electrical parts and hoses, as well as the EGR pipe also. Using the FM Protege turbo kit is not out of the question. Just fitment is a different story, and whether the stock ECU tuning can work right with this kit. |
I would suggest talking a look at mx6.com under forced induction, their forums have tonnes of info the the turbos more inline with your vehicle, plus they have been doing it for much longer.
