I don't plan to get a turbo any time soon, but I'd love to sometime in the future. I was wondering if instead of putting my money into a CAI, exhaust, header and all that of which I know would have to be replaced with a turbo, what if I upgraded internals? If I got new cams and higher compression pistons and lighter piston rings and all that, would it work all right with a turbo? Make more power? or damage the engine? Thanks in advance.

If you are planning for turbo, high compression is not recommended if you wanna run high boost. The nominal compression for turbo cars is around 8.0~8.4 to run at boost up to 25psi. If you have a high compression engine, the safe boost level is probably around 5~6psi but it still depends on many factors and compression ratio. One would be more at risk of blowing the engine with high compression ratio and higher boost level.
There are many experts of turbocharging guys in the forum. They might point you to the advisable direction.

hgiher compression pistons will work.....HOWEVER, ur are more proned to detonation, and the motor will need to be tuned much more precisely. think of the CR as a margin of safety, lower compression allow u more margin for error in air/fuel. however, one good side to higher CR will be the off-boost situation, before spoolup....the higher CR motor will (as in n/a form) be faster than the lower CR counterpart. most people use 8.5:1 CR for boosted application

other things to do with the block are forged rods, sleeves, oring the heads/gaskets, head studs

Rayman, a quick glance at your signature photo looked like a BMW 850C turbocharged!! Awesome Probe man!! Any website pix? What is your spec? BPT engine?

Wouldnt it be cheaper to just buy a gtx motor, ive heard they handle 400 hp on stock internals ..instead of making ur motor strounger for around the same price then buying all the turbo parts? ...Jon 93 lx
