Gtr & Gtx Engines???

I was at an import show in Toronto in September and i was talking with a guy about engine swaps in proteges and he was telling me about a 323 gtr and 323 gtx engine. i think he said they were both 2.5L. One was SOHC and the othe DOHC....but i can't remember.....can anyone let me know about these engines?
I'm pretty sure that those were the IDs for the engines...

thanx

To my knowledge theres 2 BPT's and a 1.6L turbo engine...both bpts are 1.8L and dual overhead..the gtx makes app. 176hp and the gtr somewhere around 210?? not sure?? from what i hear its much easier to get hold of a gtx engine than a gtr...and cheaper too. both engines are able to be swapped into the protege...but u need the stuff that goes along with it...and i have no idea about if a b6t swap is possible..but either way i wouldnt do it because the engine is rated at about 130bhp...and $/hp value is like..not good?

well the engines don't only have to come from japan. and the cars were available in LHD form in europe (germany) and can be purchased and brougth here depending on how legal you are feeling. the GTXer's have been talking about bringing these cars to america for a few years now, and i tried to find oh so many loop holes, but very few seem to exist. the engines did come in two flavors with the base (180ps) version basically being the escort GT motor with a turbo strapped on and a turbo friendly intake manifold. then there's the GTR version with 210ps and is basically a race motor. if you really want that engine, your better off buying the whole car and importing it and trying to fit as much of that car into a BG chassis. also, some people stuff BPT's into my generation (0th gen?) but we have to pound our frame rails to fit it.
as far as putting a B6T into the BG chassis, if cost and part availibility are big concerns, it's a good idea. if you plan on working on the engine, you can have 250hp out of it relatively easily.
