going supercharged
 

Well I made the decision to go supercharged. I just won an Eaton M62 on E-bay (for a piddly $208.50!) that's in good working shape. I'll pull it apart when I get it and clean it up and check everything thoroughly.

The next question is, what do I need to be careful of when putting it on the car? I've heard some stuff about positive pressure generating a CEL and that you are supposed to isolate a sensor from positive pressure. Which one is it? I'll be making my own manifold as well as all the brackets necessary, but if anyone knows of someone else that has done this, I'd appreciate any help to speed the process.

I know that I'll have to use an additional injector and FMU to richen it up slightly at WOT. Who makes the best ones, who makes the cheapest ones and who has the best reputation?

Thomas Knight has a complete kit to fit this blower on the 2.0L including all the brackets, pulleys, manifold, throttle body (2.5 V-6 mazda) but I keep hearing bad things about him. It's not a turbo kit so I'm not worried about his lousy exhaust manifold, and I am already getting the blower somewhere else. I've seen pics of the finished installation on one of his Probe's, and it looks clean. How is he to deal with if you don't like his stuff? Does he stand behind anything at all?

If I go the total fabrication route, it will probably take me a while to do this in my spare time. As I said before, anything that will help me speed up the process would be greatly appreciated. I'm especially interested in parts that already exist and good fuel management.

Thomas knight has proven to be worthless... do some research, and im sure jesse will vouch for his bad work.

if at all possible, fabricate it your self, that way you dont have to wory about someone else's shitty job..... its all your own.

oh, and i cant wait to see how it all comes out, the idea of using a super is pretty cool...... hell supers are very cool them selves

Yeah, I've heard bad about him. I've also seen posts here and on other websites that say that some people have had good experiences with some of his stuff. I'm wondering if he does drugs when he's working? That might explain some of the disparity! Just don't buy anything from him that was made late in the day if you know what I mean....:D

run it fat, get diag equipment to help and check the plugs for white heat often ....

beware of detonation....your could blow your hood off the car.

i have melted a chevy V8 before...a Mazda is far less easy to get parts for.

I am very interested in going with a supercharger set up as well traveler. I wish I had the knowledge to be able to tackle some of the R&D as you can. If you do decide to produce a SC kit for our cars I would certianly be interested. Please keep me up to date on your progress, I'm sure everyone else on the board will be interested as well. HUGE kudos to you for spending so much of your time and money on R&D for our cars... YOU ROCK!!!!

The supercharger ships Monday. Hope to have it by next weekend. I'm going to probably use the Simple Digital Systems additional injector controller. They also have a A/F meter with O2 sensor to monitor mixture. Will probably take most of the summer to fabricate a system since I'm doing this in my spare time. Main thing for the drive system is to get the pulleys aligned properly and there has to be an idler to tension the belt. I'll see how everything goes and post pictures as the project develops.

Quick update. Got my exhaust done (2.5" from the #2 cat to the rear) and got my supercharger today. I've designed an idler system on paper that looks like it will work well. Just need to clean up the blower and start fabricating. I'll be exploring different AIC's while I'm fabricating all the hard parts.
