centerforce clutch not so great
 

Okay, about 3 weeks ago i installed a centerforce double friction. Tonight i went for a ride when i got to 140kmh and put the 5 gear in place all was fine i accelerated and when i got to 5000 rpm the clutch slipped, couldn't belive it at first tried it again the clutch is really slipping at 5000 rpm max gas pedal. I paid 600$ canadian just to put in a clutch that was suppose to take it and i didn't even started to raise boost i'm still at 10psi it's going to be so great when i raise the boost always watching the rpm so it doesn't slip hurray i love my car so much this week i would trow it in a tree.

you should of asked us what clutch to get if your going turbo, never get centerforce :rolleyes:

I have heard bad things about the double friction Centerforce as well. Most people running boost seem to prefer the ACT over any other clutch.

I am very happy with my ACT Clutch. I had to replace my clutch soon after my BPT install, I feel your pain.;)
IMO, the standard ACT plate for the Proteges, don't really handle enough torque if you are planning on up'n the boost. You have to get the MX-6 turbo Pressure plate, not just the Protege one. The MX-6 plate allows about 285ft/lbs before having to go to a ceramic type clutch.
The MX-6 plate does makes for a heavier clutch pedal and a low engagment point, but you will get used to it. I would also suggest getting the stainless clutch line to handle the extra pressure as well.

call centerforce and tell em that your very disapointed that it started slipping after such little abuse and that you'll tell every one and message board and protege/escort owner your storie blah blah blah try getting your cash back.

how many miles have you put on the clutch? generally, people baby a new clutch for about 1000miles as a break in period. your clutch may not be broken in...

I know 500 is usually the break in period ,,
also the ACT clutch uses a factory disc .. I don't know how many know this , with a updated/higher rated pressure plate..

I am just going to look into a stiffer pressure plate for my Protege when I get the chance ..if its even needed

I have had my ACT on for over a year, and when I finally did go turbo I never had to worry about slippage at all.

I work in a transmission shop so i know all about the break in period that's not the trouble, by the way in the brake in period someone could go drag racing with the car it would not matter has long has you don't drop the clutch from from to hight rpm you have to go smooth on it like normal driving once the clutch his fully release it doesn't matter if you press the gas

you still failed to say what the trouble is aside from you not following the break in period

stop ganging up on him, there are many people that made the mistake of going centerforce and burnt the clutch, and they all seemed to have a gtx engine. why you think so many people say go with act. quit giving him shit about the break in period when we all know centerforce sucks period. :bt:

Has i said the brake in period was not the problem the problem come from the clutch itself. A bad brake in of a clutch his going to be felt when starting from a full stop in first gear the car going to shake even with the most experienced manual driver. It's really that the pressure plate doesn't do the job it's suppose. My oem clutch that i put in at first holded better then the centerforce the only time it slipped was at 12psi but it slipped in all gear has the centerforce only slip where the demand on the clutch his at it's highest in 5 gear at 5000rev.

I have tons of Honda Friends that use the Centerforce and have no problems with them ,, on of my friends was running 14lbs of boost in his sohc civic ex ... (sick:D ) .. no problems ..

I have another friend running 7lb in a civic ex with a ACT ,, no problems there either .. so you cant' just say the centerforce is crap..

I didn't say it's scrap i said it doesnt do what it's what suppose to do but i must say that there tech support his great we are searching for a solution on both side. Either a 6 puc disc on both side or a 225mm disc but i'm nut shure yet if it will fit the flywheel. I have to find a flywheel to see if it would fit.
