cel light

i was sprayin tonight and while i was spraying, the cel came on and flashed about 5 to 10 times. i really did not keep count to give an exact number. after this, it became a steady light. i was wonderin what this would mean. the car still starts up and idles fine and runs fine, but i just got home and restarted it, so maybe it needs to cool down first before any problems arrise. thanks for any input. i have a 2002 protege sedan.

could be anything. You could've been detonating and that was your engine's way of telling you. Could've lost fuel pressure, could've freaked out the MAF/vam if you were praying before it....

you need to have the code pulled before we start jumping the gun on it.

got the codes pulled today. i had a misfire in cylinder #4, and the crank postion sensor went bad. surprsingly, mazda had the sensor in stock, so i replaced it and everything seems to be back to normal. by the way, what is the part number for the ngk plugs that are two ranges cooler than stock. thanks in advance.

Be careful! I remember the same thing happened to me when I had my Zex Nitrous Kit. When the CEL started flashing, my engine was toast!! I melted a piston. My fault for not having the supporting fuel/ignition mods to support N2O.

wow that is not good. This has happened two more times, and every time i get the codes pulled, its always a misfire. The car still runs fine and there is no knocking, so i dont know what the heck is going on. If anyone has any other suggestions, please give them to me. I think my nitrous days are over, i can not afford to blow this motor. thanks in advance, craig.

I bet you blew out the piston rings on the cylinder in question and you are losing compression

bbsf2 February-16th-2005 08:01 PM

would the motor run weird, or would it still run fine. becuase as of now, the motor is idling fine and it seems like it isnt losing any power. i pulled the plugs out and they seemed alright

do a compression check...

bbsf2 February-17th-2005 11:53 AM

i plan on doin one tonite at my friends house as long as hes not workin. hopefully, the compression is good across the board.

bbsf2 February-24th-2005 09:17 PM

well, i did a compression test tonite and two of the cylinders read 170 and the other two read 180, and the standard compression of the fs motor is 171, so it looks like i am in the clear, at least for not losing compression. i have ngk two ranges colder spark plugs, and i am hooked up on the rite fuel feed line, so maybe the nitrous is messin with the spark when it is sprayed. who knows, i am not going to spray again anyway for a while just to see how the motor holds up. i might pull the head in the near future to see what the pistons and cylinder walls look like, but for now, i think im OK (knock on wood). if anyone else has any idea why i would be misfirng when im sprayin, please give me an idea thanks alot craig.
