Anyone supercharge or turbo their 1.6L MP?

Hi people, new here.
I have a 1.6L protege, nice car. Problem: sloooooow! OK, maybe I am too demanding, my previous car was a Corolla with a very special 20 valve blacktop engine transplanted into it, 160hp at the flywheel (read very quick).

So now, I am thinking of either supercharging or going for a turbo for the ZM-DE engine in my car.

Any experience, comments, advice?

Thanks

Unless you go custom, this is your only option. Its a pretty good setup too. One of our members has one and he is boosting close to 200hp.

I may do a custom setup. When I upgrade the turbo in my Nissan, I'm going to keep the turbo and use it for my protege w/a TMIC.

How much boost does the wagnermotorsports turbo give? I want a turob but don't want to affect reliability/drivability of my daily driver. Just want more power. Also afraid of turbo lag especially w/ 4speed auto.

www.prostreetonline.com has 2 diffent turbo setups for the mazda protege 1.6 liter engine.. one is a 30% boost .. for the person who just wants a lil bit more and the extreme package that gives a 56% increase. the extreme kit is a full kit. it comes with turbo manifolds intercooler all piping and a new fuel injector system. and the price isnt that bad about 2500 for entire kit and 1799 for other kit!

Not to worry, supercharger ordered and on its way. Rotrex SP-30, with a sig. con., 2 bar MAP sensor, FM 2 fuel controller for the extra fuel injector, and a charge cooler kit to keep the intake air nice and cool... will post results once kit is installed...

Who makes a supercharger for the 1.6l?

mota mazda October-23rd-2003 02:35 PM

Lots of brands available. Rotrex, Procharger, Vortex,.... just to name a few. And you can supercharge any car, any engine size, any number of cylinders. Easy to do, just need to get all the parts you need together. There is no ready-to-bolt-on "kit". After a lot of research, I decided to choose Rotrex. Check out their site, very cool.

I'm just going to get the kit from Wagner Motorsports. Its so dam cheap, so I figured "why not?". I already have a fast car, I'm just doing this to my 1.6l Pro so I don't get dicked around on the highway by asshole drivers.
