1.8 DOHC BP Turbo Upgrades

The time has come, after this weekend we will finally have a bolt on turbo and manifold for our cars! This manifold is designed for the 90-94 Protege LX, and will bolt up to the 91-96* Escort GT.

*95-up EGT will require custom oil/coolant lines.

I have received the turbo's and on Saturday I will be taking the race car in for the final design. We will also be making a downpipe, cold air intake, and possibly an intercooler system for them.

I have posted some pics of the two available turbo's on my website under the "BLT Products" section. More to come after the weekend.

Click here to visit our site.

If someone wants a turbo put on their DX and is in the Socal area I will need their car and a deposit for a few days to get the manifold produced.

It will be available to you guys as well, just with a higher shipping rate ;)

Is the price set yet or do we have to wait a little more ???

turboge September-12th-2002 04:07 PM

The manifolds are going to be $400. The bigger manifold for the t3/t4 is going to be $600. We are looking into getting the T3 manifold cast after the first production. Not sure if it will lower or raise the prices. We are looking into it.. The manifold is done today, I'm going up there to take pics tonight. It'll be bolted on to the motor its derived for ;)

how fast would a protege DX pull that is turbo'd? anyone have any idea? i mean is it even worth to turbo a 103 horsepower car..? or should we just wait for results of a turbo LX and swap in DOHC then turbo. heheh

It's always worth to turbo a car, especially a 103 horsepower one!!!

Because 103 horses is pretty weak............wouldn't you want it to be a lot faster.........

I am not saying that my 120horse LX is that fast, but you need the Turbo more than I do................get what I am trying to say;)

turboge September-20th-2002 01:12 AM

By the way guys, the turbo manifold is done. Our first one is a one off for a customer and has a external wastegate setup going on soon. The T3 manifold is jigged up and ready for production next week. I have some pics of the T3/T4 manifold with a hybrid turbo on it and a T3 on it. I'll try to get them up tomorrow after work.

yeh but if we both turbo'd our car the same way, u would obviously still have higher power comin out of ur engine compared to mine because urs started out a lil higher. thats what i meant......... but yeh i get what ur saying. but that 1.6 3rd gen turbo'd is pretty impressive!

kagekun September-23rd-2002 12:36 AM

thats not all true though. The lx i think weighs a bit more and its compression is higher so the dx should be able to run at highes boost, correct?

whut about the intake manifold on a SOHC would that have to be changed with the kit you are going to develop. also whut all is going to come with the kits you are going to sell. great job on all the progress though... pics look sweet.:bt: Big thumbs up bro.

turboge September-23rd-2002 01:22 PM

The DOHC and SOHC have the same block. The heads differ. The intake manifold will not be touched in this case. The exhaust manifold is exchanged with our new unit. The two differ in bolt pattern so they will not mate up to either car. I will need a DX here to fit up the flange, the header will be the same but the flange different.

I should be going up this week to finish the whole system.

I went to your websit and saw that you are selling the DOHC motor with the turbo on it for like $1200. That seems like a very cheap price:D! Does that come with everything on the motor ready to go?

Well i just bought my 93 LX and I am very interested in buying turbo for my car. I saw that you were talking about developing the kits for these cars.... are they ready for you to sell yet? If so, how much do they cost? How many pounds of boost do they produce, and how much approximate hp does it increase? Let me in on the details:bt:!

If u turbo charge the sohc i would think u would have to change the tranny since its not stroung enough to hold alot of power .. jon 93 lx
