yakima bike racks - new 2003 towers adaptable?

i've done numerous searches on this topic but no one has discussed the new 2003 yakima products as of yet --

my goal is to set up a full yakima system using our factory rack rails but NOT the crossbars...i also have no interest in running clips into my doors (as in the Q towers)...

does anyone know if the new "landing pad/control tower" conbo will work on our vehicles?

it appears the "landing pad" is designed to slide into the factory rails and then the "control tower" with crossbars locks directly into the landing pad....

any ideas??????...

thanks a bunch,
dan

That looks similar to the Yakima Railriders, which I dont think they make anymore. I tried the Railriders, and they fit in the factory rails great for the rear bar, but the rails dont run the full length of the car. There was no good way to attach the front bar.

If you've got a Sportsrack or similar store in your area, maybe an REI, they usually will help try to mount the racks before you buy them.

Or you could try adding Yakima rails to the roof, then towers. I've seen them on a few Civic hatches and it looks good.

If you do find an answer, post it! I like the factory rack for most uses, but the crossbars are too short to carry two kayaks easily.
