Wriring Harness

I just wanted to be sure on this. There is NO wiring harness made for the P5 yet, am i correct? I havent been able to find one. So I guess I will have to take the factroy plug apart to get my deck in. If anyone has any ideas or knows if there is a wiring harness please let me know

thanx

Hrm I had my system installed professionally, but I was going back to get extra work done, I will ask...I have a ProES, same deck?

Eric F October-7th-2001 11:31 AM

They should use the same plug regardless. I had my system professionally installed this time around, so I don't know what they used.

ah well
i just put my deck in, and i just ended up using those t connector things behind the factory harness. I know they arent the greatest connection but hopefully they will hold.

i hope there was enough room behind there so that they could be tucked away without any tension. They will be ok if they are not under any stress.

wiring harness

That is correct, there is NO wiring harness available for any of the proteges right now, i called aamp, metrawire, installer choice, and crutchfield, who uses 2 other brands, and no one has 1 available yet but it is being researched meaning it should be out in 6months to a year.

there is actally a lot of room back there to the sides of the deck. There is zero room behind it but if you tuck everything to the side of it, there is enough room.

wiring harness...

I have found this site to be very helpful...

ok i did the voltage test on the white/black wire, and it seems that it is the dimmer. With the lights off it registered 0.00 volts, with the lights on it regitered more than zero (i cant remember the exact #). BUt i hooked that wire up to my illumination wire on my deck and it doesnt do anything when i turn on the headlights. So something is wrong there. Just dont know what.

Metra shows that the 70-7901 harness can be used for 1990 to 2001 Protege's????????

the colors are not the same as the early pros, but the pin layout may be the same....if somebody can give me the pin layout i can cross reference it and let you all know.
(draw a pic of the plug and which wire goes where)

an easy way to check for polarity of the speakers (which is + and which is -) is to use a 9volt battery.

touch each suspect wire to the + and - of the battery terminals, watch the speaker, if it moves outward, then you polarity is correct, if it moves inward, then it's backwards. Don't worry about the "pop" you hear :D
