Window tint laws in your state, before asking check this page..
For most of those that want to tint there cars check out this page which lists all of the states and their window tinting percentages. I was not really suprised by ny's laws being 70% for the front which I think is crap .. but at least you can refrense to this ...

I drive a 99 Touring Edition and am currently selling it. But I tinted all my windows(excpt for front windshield) 5% at back and 35% on fronts, the fronts arn't legal but no cop cares. My car is newer so they think it comes standard.

Here's a simple way to get out of it. YOU BOUGHT THE CAR WITH THE TINT IT HAS! There's not much any state can do when you purchased the car with the tint it has, illegal or not. And believe me, with enough money they get from honda owners trying to race. I have no problem fibbing to the cops a little!

dUDE, who CaREs just do it 5% all aroud like mINE.
If you tint the front window yourself, cost you like 17$.
The fixup ticket cost 10$
So over all you only lose 27$.
But whats the chance of you getting caught?? Barely. Exactly.

I've found that, when pulled over, cops will not give you any trouble about tint if you rolled down all windows, and if at night, turned on all internal lights. Be sure to turn off the car, keys on dash, hands on wheel. If you stereo can be on while key is out, turn it off (or optionally play the theme song for "Cops" at a respectible volume). Blowing smoke in their face is also a no no, so put that out. They'll only go looking for problems if you are one, take your ticket and be respectful. You might just get out of it should you make the cop feel comfortable. Its worked for me, hell I should have been arrested and impounded 3 time already.

hmm i guess i'm the exception, since i was flagged down by an officer on foot specifically and only for the tint levels. the first words out of his mouth were "what are you doing driving around with tint that dark?"
the sad part is this car was bought used with the tint already on it. VIN records show it was originally bought in new mexico. why didnt the dealer inform me that the tint levels were illegal? according to the cop(s), the tint law in VA states that 50% of the light must show thru the front door, 35% of the light must show thru the rear door....i had 15% front & rear according to his tint meter, i'm sure its 15% on the rear window too. but he told me i had a $25 fine (+ processing fee which i'm sure is around $60) and that the district court would require me to remove the tint. in front of me were a line of cars they pulled over, one from NY which i'm sure is for the tint level too, it looked darker than mine. and before i pulled away, it looks like they pulled over a car for white corners which is BS because my 95 protege had clear corners (the corner lights in the 1995 were separate from turn signals). VA is so strict, all blinkers must be amber only (not even yellow), unless rear which can also be red. the last words out of the cops mouth was "you cant drive with your windows that dark, you cant see anything, and other people cant see you." that jerk, i didnt even know about the tint till after i test drove it. i can see plenty fine out of these windows day or night.
