Will "Steering Wheel 2003 Mazda 6" fit

On mazdastuff.com, they have a "Steering Wheel 2003 Mazda 6" listed on the 6's accessories. I'm wondering if this steering wheel is similar to the MSP's, and if it will fit on a pro? Or, is mazda going to release the MSP's wheel?

i doubt it will fit. it might bolt up, but there is extra wiring in the wheel for the radio controls that might make it a bee-otch to wire correctly.

doesn't your car already have a 3-spoke wheel?

Yeah, but I like the look of the MSP wheels (or the 6's) with the two tone colors. Plus, on the 6's, on like where the speed cont is.

Man, I would kill for the P5/ES three spoke steering wheel :( .

well if you wanted to you could hook the wheel mounted buttons to something else...say a set of neon lites both interior and undercarage or a NOS setup.

Nik is right though...The 6's steering harness probably will not fit the Protege's. So the airbag and horn will not function without fixing that, not to mention all the buttons on the new wheel...

I'd love to have the Mazda6 steering wheel.

It has a much more "elegant" look then the regular pro wheel.

So honestly, if the wheel fits a pro, how hard whould it be to run the wires for the buttons?

Thats what my last post was about. I don't think anyone is sure if it will fit the bolt pattern of the column anyway. But if it does...the harness is most likely different...

You would need to get the 6's column harness and splice the horn and air bag (Maybe even the cruise control wiring too, not sure if that is incorporated into one harness on the protege or not. If it doesn't this will be even more difficult...). You then need to mount the wiring in the new harness and connect it to the 6's wheel harness. You then have some options for the extra wheel buttons. The stock P5 or ES does not have any wiring after the steering wheel for the radio controls, and doing that kind of wiring will be probably impossible with the stock radio head unit. So like some others said you can wire in a variety of different systems that operate off of a switch. You could use a button on the new wheel for aftermarket foglights or a Nitrous system etc...

So how do find answers to your questions about the bolt pattern and the wiring harnesses? (I'm hoping by asking this, that a tech somewhere at sometime will check this out for us!) It's a cool idea, but my be time consuming to get done.

it won't work, why don't you just get the P5, msp, or MP3 steering wheel? It'll cost just as much

The Miata's looks like a fit as well, and they have the Nardi label on them. Has anyone tried it? The airbag and spokes look the same.

kc5zom March-28th-2003 09:53 PM

Wow... So civil....

You would have to mount the old one to the new steering wheel, unless you wanted the whole steering column (Miata has a stalk). The mounting holes might or might not be there for you to mount your steering wheel mounted switch. I got my wheel off of a wrecked P5, but there are probably a lot more wrecked Miata's than P5's so you might go to the yards and look around. Be careful mounting it so you get the alignment right.

tire wheel or steering wheel? can you post a pic of it with no airbag so we can see the mounting parts?
