Will this amp be strong enough?

Im mainly looking at the ALpine amp to compliment my Alpine HU :P, but which amp will give me the best sound? JBL or Alpine?
|
wiring has nothing to do with needing a cap. if you don't have one, your headlights will dim and your amp will not get all of its power. yes my suggestion was more but to some people warranty and gaurntee mean something(not beinb anal, just saying it matters to some)
good luck with your system |
i do see your point with the proper alt and battery. buy on my last install, i did a infinity reference system in my buds car and for a 280X1 amp on a singe 10" reference sub i ran 8 guage wire straight from the battery to the cap to the amp and grounded the amp and cap with the 8 guage wire also. when the bass was hitting at 3/4 volume, all lights on the car would dim, the light on the amp would dim, bass still sounded awesome. since i had already cut the wire for the amp and cap i first just wired the wire from the battery stright into the amp and when the bass would hit and sustain a long note i would touch it to the cap and take it off and i could hear the difference. the car was a 2000 cavalier with stockeverything. if the headlights dim, then stuff isn't getting its full power which "usually includes the amp" and the bass won't hit as hard. In most small non powerful systems and cap isn't needed, but i wouldn't recommend going without one unless money was only reason. but if you can get a 1faurd cap for a hundred bucks, thats a fraction of the price for another alt. and battery.

Thanks brother.

wow blue your one smart fellar!
Thanks. |
if a 280 what rms amp why does it require4 guage wire and all the manufactores say 10 gauge.
|
here is a link about caps from car audio and electronics mag. cap its say on a system like mine in the car like mine, USE A CAP
|
i did goto that website blue, i guess the 10 guage wire is what would be used if it were like mounted a foot from the battery, but i put in the specs of the amp(25 amps), the total length of origanal cord was 17 feat, we had 2 ft left so lets say ruggly, 15 feet, the webside says 8 guage is fine, which is what we ran. it was a streetwire kit if that makes a difference

blue don't forget to tell them about ESR on caps, and shop wisely for one or it is more of a drain than not....
:D |
its a lightning audio strike cap that i always use

Hmm....I just got here, but I've read through this post and can say that I agree and disagree. You guys both (walight and blue) have to remember that not all companies tell the truth. For example, an alt on the Cavalier may be supposed to have enough room for extra amps, but cannot. Also, the amp might pull more amps even though it's not supposed to. Weirder things happen. But you're both right, so whatever.
Don't buy a cap unless you HAVE to. Try it out first. I never needed one on my old car, and technically I REALLY needed one. I got a Yellowtop for 138 shipped off of ebay. I ran my old 1000w+ system for 3 hours straight at loud volume w/out needing to start the car. They're worth the money. I've also forgotten my lights for 5 or more hours and it was fine. Unless you're set on that Infinity sub, you can get better for the same price. And unless you REALLY think you'll break it, I'd look for unused used stuff. I've never had anything die on me, and for 300 you could get an IDMAX which would totally blow that Infinity away. Whew..... |
What subs do you prefer Blue?

shoot well then you better show some pics of proper wiring and give some good details ,, I assume you have done this yourself ,, I am interested to know , cause I have wired my car 3 different ways when I had my system in , and the best was always with the cap installed , wich was a .5
Bruce Originally posted by blue LEDz wiring has everything to do with not needing a cap. caps do not supply power. they merely store it. so if your alternator and battery are up to par, and everything is wired properly, you will notice zero difference with a cap. trust me on this. i have done a lot of research;) caps are bandaid fixes to electrical problems. say you have a 1000 watt system with a 1 farad cap connected to it. and at peak bass notes your amp draws 60 amps. lets say the cap is running at 14.4 volts and the battery is running at 12.7 volts. the amp will pull from the highest voltage source. here's the equation: capacitance = (change in time x amperage)/change in volts 1 farad = (time x 60)/1.7 the 1.7 is the voltage drop needed to draw power from the battery. so with that 1 farad cap it will only be useful for .02833333333 seconds. not worth it IMO. if your alternator can't keep up with the demand the amp places on it, then a bigger alternator is needed, NOT a capacitor. and headlight dimming should not be the judge of supposedly needing a cap. proper wiring, proper alt, and proper battery is all that is needed. a cap will not improve an amps performance. today with better power supplies in amps and with larger power supply capacitor banks internally in amps, the ill effects of power supply sag have been decreased with more efficent amp topoligies, better compnonets, and regulated power suppies. |
i would honestly stick with the infinity sub, just for the fact its a infinity product. great sq and good spl for the amount of power u will be ussing.

Yeah, I've also heard great things about the E12K's. They're very cheap, don't require a lot of power, and are best in smaller boxes. Good stuff.
Personally, I'm getting an Adire 12" Brahma sub in a 1'^3' sealed enclosure (after displacement). They're a little bit more than the E12K's, but everyone who's had them say they are on par with the JL's W7s!! Can't wait to hook it up. As for that amp, it should power a lot of things. Especially if you go ported. It all depends on how *loud* you want your sub, and what kind of bass you're looking for. Underpowering a sub will never hurt it (or you'd blow your sub every time you turned the volume down). Subs can get pretty dang loud with just 300W of power. They just get even louder with more. -Jomero |
i'm probably going to be buying a E12k b/c of its price
