Why No Boston Acoustics?
 

I hear everyone talking about all other types of speakers but does anyone here use Bostons. I have had them in two other cars and think they are great. I plan on puting RC620 Components in the doors and the Rally 6 1/2 two way in the rears. I also plan on powering them with a Sony X-Plod 75 x 4 amp initially with the stock HU until I can find a HU that I like and will blend in with the dash and silver trim. Sub to come later on (i bought the car for all the room the hatch gives you). Any comments on this setup?

cause usually they are too expensive. :p they are good spkrs, but in today's car audio world, it's just hard not to leave out a good brand since there are so many now. boston's do rock tho... :D

I'll be running Boston speakers. Pro 5.5 up front and RM6 in the the rear, with a 4x100 watts RMS amp. Super expensive but they are incredible speakers. If you search the net for reviews, you'll find that Boston stuff beats just about everything out there. Many ppl also dislike the high cost though.

I used to have the 2 10inch competitor subs by boston , they are very power hungry but sound excellent and take up very small amount of space.

I'd have to agree that price is the culprit. It's hard to find anyone who does much in the way of discounting BA stuff, so at retail, it's not competing with things that have the same MSRP (e.g. Infinity), it's competing with things that list for more (e.g. MB Quart). I think that really hurts BA.

Pretty much in agreement here, it's pretty pricey stuff. It's priced in a league where other stuff may look more appealing, for eg, a set of Boston Pro 3 ways are more expensive than my Focal Polykevlar 3 ways. I went for the Kevlar's because metal tweets "tend" to image better from kicks. Nothing really wrong with BA's, just nothing that special I guess you could say. I know some local competitors who swear by them though. The one's I've listened to sound pretty good. Smooth & dry. All depends on what you like.

Another big reason would be that there is very little direct sales via the internet of Boston speakers. You can find the subs often enough, but the pro component product is hard to find. E-Bay offers the greatest range of their products. Boston contols their distribution channel, and likes it that way. As a consumer I would love to find it cheaper, but on the other hand I applaud them for having control of their channel, that is pretty unusual these days is car audip.
I use Bostons in the front and rear stock locations, and love them. I would recommend them anytime.
Their price is not rock bottom, but they don;t try to out sell Jensen.
I have Focal Utopias in one of the other cars, and there is little comparison between any of the Focal products and most others in my book. Kevlar series can be had at good prices if you shop the internet or E-Bay.
The Boston stuff is straight drop in, compared to the minor fitting required of Focals.
It depends on what "stage" of audio you desire. If the tunes are just for you, then Boston. If you want to upgrade the system to competition level at some point, go Focal.

At the price of the Utopia's, there are other's to be considered as well. It boils down to what your tastes are. There are quite a few people who don't like the sound of the Utopia's. There's always Dyn, Rainbow, HLCD's, etc. I'd get the Utopia's if I could afford it but Kevlar's are good enough for me. I did upgrad to the Utopia (TN51) tweeter as it's much smoother than the other (TN45) tweeter. It's true though, internet sales does have an impact on how many people use it, it seems.

Good points Huey- I have my favorite, but the dyns and rainbows are very good, and compete well. If you check percentages- in point rated competition, you will find focal owns the house these days for front sound stage-
I have had a soft spot for horns for many years myself, but have not used them for competition.

focal, rainbow, cdt, "older" a/d/s... damn, if i had the money, i'd buy a car for each line/system! :p
