Why does it cost so much?

This may be a stupid question, but why do shift knobs cost so much? Ive seen them range from $15 bucks (Wally World) to $150 bucks. The majority of are in the $60 to $80 range. Im just curious why something with so few parts, cost so much. I know that something doesnt have to have alot of parts to cost alot (a diamond), but you know what I mean...

They're expensive because someone has to pay for the tooling and the person who designed them. Materials such as leather, carbon fiber, and titanium would also add to the price. If you're satisfied with knock offs with the faux carbon fiber print or paint, by all means, go for it. They obviously won't last as long, but at that price, you can get 3-4.

As with most things, I think it is supply and demand. How many people will change their shift knobs? Not that many. Plus as JDMstuff said, someone has to pay for the design etc. I am looking at replacing mine with an Autotechnica one. It is yellow and black and matches my P5. It is also shaped to your hand so grip is better. It is around $150 CDN but I am working on that. Doing something like that also personalizes your ride.

I agree that some things are just out-of-whack when it comes to prices - shift knobs being one of them.

I'd love to get the Razo that will fit an automatic AND has the overdrive button - the thing is awesome looking, like a stick in a fighter-jet. But for $100+, I think I'll pass for now:
