What is everyone thoughts on clear bras?
 

I have been comtemplating buying the clear bra for my vehicle when it gets here. My biggest issue is the cost of the product. I like the Stongard coverage, but the price is too much with labor. I have found a place that sells almost the same kit as stongard for less than half the price, but I am unsure of it. Please give feedback. The place is rockblocker.com

It's not bad, but from what I've seen it scratches easily because it is so soft, and thus becomes foggy which looks like shit. It can't be removed, so ou're stck with it once it's on. I'd just get a bufflector for winter (like I have) and be done with it.

I think girls with clear bras will look hot. :D

That's the whole thing. I hear you can wash and wax it like it wasnt there and that it can be removed at anytime. Of course you wouldnt want ot because you cant re-use it.

I know someone that is going to get it so I guess I can check it out then and make my mind up after that.

A friend of mine has a vinyl graphics shop and he sells a product called HOOD SKINZ. its just clear 5-7 year vinyl cut to fit your car as you would graphics. And you can remove it anytime you want........Duncan

as far as I know, the product is basically nothing more than a clear vinyl. 3M makes the thickest stuff out there. The thicker it is, the more resistant to chipping and scratching it will be, but it'll also be more visible to see where it starts and ends if it's thicker. There's probably a hundred manufacturers out there that make it, but most people just sell the 3M stuff under their own name. Don't pay for labor, it's super easy to apply. It stretches and can be applyed with soap and water just like any vinyl product. Most companies will even sell a kit with pre-cut pieces measured for the panels on your car.

I had the 3M film installed on my car and am overjoyed that I did. It doesn't ruin the lines of the car (like a deflector) or ruin the paint (like a bra).

As to whether it can be removed: it most certainly can. I have had it on two cars, mine and my wifes. I replaced the film on my wifes car after 4 years. I t came off with heat, just as advertised, and left no residue. The hood on her car looked just like new, no chips, scratches, or blemishes of any kind. It was a snap to replace.

I drive my car in all kinds of conditions that are potentially rough on the paint and can tell you that I haven't picked up a single stone chip in over 18,000 kilometers.

Anyone that wants to protect their investment in their car should seriously look at using the film.

I will be getting my car back from the shop next week with a "new" paintjob and am interested in this, can this be put on the bumper and hood easily? i want to protect the new paintjob

The hood would be an easy install. The bumper on the other hand work take some work, but not impossible. Rockblocker.com has the hood piece for $70.00. check it out.

Dude, $70 is alot of money for that! I can get you a whole roll of 3m 5-7 year yinyl for $50 and you could have 15 clear bras if you want.............Duncan

I see some problems with vinyl. It is cheap for a reason.


There are a lot differences in vinyl versus urethane.

One stretches and conforms and the other lays there.

One is pre-cut versus a hand trm on your paint!!!

Vinyl has come off at low speeds. The edges can get caught by a wash mitt. Pre-cut kits are made not do that with rounded edges.

Urethane film was designed to prevent sand and rocks from damaging the military helicopters

One is clear with a clearcoat finish and the other has too much orange peel. Also guaranteed to yellow for life or it is free.

Race teams use the urethane t protct vinyl graphics for a reason. So thier sponsors can read the logos after it has had the front end kicked out of it.
