What do you think about colored tint?

I'm getting ready to tint my pro5's windows this weekend and have mixed feelings about the colored tint from Gila. What do you guys think? Regular black tint or color???

wiredone June-6th-2003 08:07 AM

preference

its really a matter of preference

there will always be some people who will bag you out for it and others that will love it...

black tint is the safest bet if your worried about pulic opinion

Lerxst June-6th-2003 08:13 AM

I've never seen colored tint that I liked. Usually I just point and laugh.

Black always improves the look.

Just my $.02

I saw a yellow P5 with yellow, faded to black tint.. it was BEAUTIFUL. Certain angles you could see the yellow tint and other angles it looks like regular black tint with a hint of yellow.

funkdaddysmack June-6th-2003 08:51 AM

I don't like colored tint, but that's just my opinion. Black tint will make any car look better.

i just went throught the same thing!! I look at 10 different shades of colored tints...in the end I went for limo black( 5%). It is soooo sweet. Color is different for now but remember its there forever.

The ones I was considering was the gradient tinting from silver to red but it looked more pink so I decided against.

Then they had a black to a red which was great for the rear window but did not mesh well with the sides.

...... Limo the back 7 and 40-45% the front sides:D !!

this is my yellow tint, it is the one thing I get comments on the most....good and bad :-)

I agree with this quote. Go with the black......

It's phat on show cars, and gives your whole interior a color of its own. The WW Protege even has the windshield done, and their RSX must be like sitting underwater with all that blue!

I wouldn't do it on a street car, but on a show car I'm sure it's worth major points. I like it. :bt:

pro00 June-7th-2003 12:21 PM

I have the 50% tint, all I get are compliments

I was about to put the silver tint, but it was illegal and I didn't want anytrouble with the law, because it would have stood out.

If i had to do it all over again, I would go with black again.

Just remember, get what is legal in your state. it is not work putting all the $$ in tint, have a judge then order you to remove it. Seen it happen;)

As Ive said in previous threads, I personnaly (being a show guy) dont like tints AT ALL unless:
a)They are coloured. Body-matched coloured tint looks very bad-ass. Also, some complimentary tints look good too (ie. A white car that has blue accenting looks sweet with blue tint)
b)Has something fancy done in the tint. IE, dark tribal graphics cut in tint laid over top of lighter tint!

mnkyboy June-8th-2003 12:15 AM

I was told at the tint shop I should go with a metallic tint, since the black tint fades over time. I saw a car there that had the metallic tint, and i dont think it would look good on my VY P5. Anyone have any thought on this?

wiredone June-8th-2003 07:30 AM

good in some circumstances

depends once agin... i would support black metallic... so its like a tinted mirror but i dont like colour that much... also metallic tint only looks good in some cirumstances... i know my black P5 wouldnt look god with metallic cause the black makes it looks 'bling but tint would make it look out of place...

one of those things that you take the plunge on... may look sick may ruine the car... make or break...

but if you have read around this forum you will find that alot of people have more to say than their 2c with pressured opinions... in the end its YOUR car, and only YOU know what looks good... cause your looking at it more than anyone else... so go with what looks good to YOU... =)

the WiredOne has spoken =p

That is HOT.

mnkyboy June-9th-2003 11:59 AM

Is it true that black (non-metallic) tint fades over time? If so, what is the timeframe that we are talking about? Is tint easy to remove and install new tint?

pollito14 June-9th-2003 06:51 PM

If it's cheap do-it-yourself tint it fades within a year maybe. If it's industrial grade it shouldn't fade and you can get an anti-scratch guarentee.

Why not put both colors!! I've heard of people installing a light black tint with a light silver behind it. It makes it slightly reflective I think.

Why not try this with yellow. Install a light black then a light yellow behind. If you're going to install it you won't loose much besides time and a few bucks.

slamprotege5 June-9th-2003 09:40 PM

tried it both ways black then yellow/yellow then black and both ways took too much away from the yellow. it is just super freakin bright on sunny days and at night everything is yellow:D

thanks mygreenmazda:)

Also, the purple-ing effect on tints is cause by amonia which is a product commonly found in product like windex. If you want your tint staying black, just use soap and water!

demoninvictus June-11th-2003 03:20 AM

body color matched tints look alright, like the yellow tint on a yellow car flows, it's nice. either than that, black is the way to go, and unless you've done a tint job more than twice without air bubbles or creases in the film, don't attempt tinting... let the pros do it, if there is one thing i do hate more than tints darker than 20-25% is creases and bubbles in a tint job... just looks like shit. depending on car color, you can go with different styles, and the tribal decals...eh, looks phat as hell, but function wise, you're windows are meant to be see thru so you can SEE traffic and cars coming towards you. my buddy's camaro can't be driven after sundown, and even so, looks like night outside during a bright sunny day with his 5% tint all around. 40-50% all around should give you the look you want and the visibility you need to see out of your windows.
peace

Ended up going with "normal" tint. Went with 35% up front and 20% in the back. Looks pretty good.

Bestrafe June-20th-2003 12:06 AM

here is my car with the platinum tint.. i like it way better than the limo black...

its only 18%

derrick1623 June-20th-2003 06:51 AM

dammit, i miss my blue mirror tint!!!!!!!!!!

pollito14 June-20th-2003 12:38 PM

I would loove to do some reflective tints on my car but they are illegal and cops love to screw people here. Especially hooked up cars.

mnkyboy June-20th-2003 01:51 PM

Anyone have any pics of reflective metallic tint on a Vivid Yellow P5, or any yellow car? A local shop recommends that tint, and they quoted me $220 for my car.

I saw one up here with gold reflective tint. Really complimented the yellow well. I don't have pictures though. :(
