Waxed the P5.....
 

w/ liquid Zymol (wicked good stuff!)....Much easier it seems to wax than my old RS (crevices etc.) .....the paint (midnight? blue) looks great (finger crossed) after the brutal winter...at some point will put 2nd coat.....fwiw...I had the tailgate replaced after a parking lot hit and run someone did..and the paint got matched perfectly...obviously easier to see once washed and waxed.....

I used Zymol a number of times but it never seemed to last very long... Not sure what kind you used but I used the Japon Carnauba stuff and it was way too expensive($45+ for a couple of ounces) for how long it lasted. Seemed to me to be more of a show wax than protection wax...Let me know how it turns out..

yea....Ive thought the Zymol doesn't last tii long BUT once its on its ON:p ......conviently I just ran out so if there are other similiar waxes ...I'm all ears.....then again Zymol was impressive maybe throw a few more coats on there (time permitting) :rolleyes:

All of their stuff is polymer based, so it isn't a wax exaclty. It seems to be king among the BMW crowd...Looks amazing on my black P5, and with yours being Blue you will probably feel the same on yours too. I got a kit that had the claybar and all kinds of other pre coat cleaners that strip the paint before you polish it. You can put as many coats on as you want and it will look better the more you do. I cleaned the paint and applied 3 coats last July, and it still looks good, albeit a very rough winter...

Sorry I can't remember the price of the kit, but it wasn't bad if you are used to Zymol's products...

I forget what I paid for the Zymol..(musta been the beers :p )...around 20$ I think....I learned that you gotta spend extra a bit to get the better finish...I made the mistake of using Turtlewax paste (yikes) on my RS....swirls all over though I tend to think that maybe Subaru's less than stellar paint job didn't help and believe me I 've waxed my share of cars and I dropped the ball on that...I then went to MacGuires (seems decent) then to the Zymol (best so far) but still was never able to lose the swirls....P5's paint much better (atleast on mine)

I think that the $20 liquid Zymol is actually made by Turtle Wax, or so I heard long ago. It's the cheapest Zymol out there and it works very well for the price.

I agree it doesn't last long, it's mostly for the shine, so for protection I usually apply a layer of Mother's carnuba cleaner paste for protection and a thin coat of Zymol for shine.

The Japanese stuff is really expensive here to, and it works worse than the American stuff. Japanese waxes and polishes are also less thick to suit thinner paints on Japanese cars, or so they say.

Try Klasse, good stuff. Like Zymol, you can layer one on top of the other. I put on 3 coats in October, water still beads now, amazing after the brutal winter. Looks great, and lasts. No swirl marks either!!:cool:

I use mothers "reflections" premium wax. People still are suprised that my car is a year old, because my car is so shiny due to the wax.

Zaino Bros is the shit. That stuff is amazing. A kit comes come with everything you need. Claybars are included

where do you get the kit? i went to the Zaino website and you can only buy each product individually

also, do we have clear coated or regular paint?

I think most of the new protege's should have a clear coat. (I know my P5 does.)

Yeah I just ordered mine over the phone, and they told me about all their different packages.

the Zainos stuff is well worth it.
