Upgrading speakers with stock HU?
 

Picked up my P5 last Friday and after driving it for 3 days I found the speakers really have to go.

I want to upgrade to Infinity reference without getting a new HU as I want to keep the stock look. I don't blast the system often and most of the stuff I listen are not extremely bass heavy anyways so no plans for subs in the future.

So my question is will the stock HU able to drive those speakers?

no you REALLY should replace the HU if you are going to replace the speakers also, iwould suggest you save up and get something decent becuase the HU can only put out 25W MAX x 4

This is really sad, RMS is probably like 8-10W, if you get infinity reference speakers they may not like the low power, i believe they want around 40-50W RMS at least to sound good. upgrading your headunit first will also give you better sound.

Actually money is not the issue here. It's I want to keep the stock look that's why I don't want to replace the HU. But thanks for the comment anyways.

I have to disagree with 20FS. Yes, the stock HU is underpowered, but that doesn't mean that a speaker upgrade won't help. I put in JBL GTO-series speakers (very comparable to the Infinity Reference line) and the sound is much improved.

Still, I'm not getting everything out of the speakers that I could (because, as 20FS noted, the lack of power in the stock HU). My suggestion: If you really want to keep the stock HU (which I completely understand), consider upgrading your speakers and adding a modest amp. That's what I'm doing, though I haven't had the chance to get the amp in yet.
