tint on sedan

Hi everyone.

I'm planning to have the rear windows and windshield tinted on my '02 silver Pro Sedan. Does anyone have pictures of a sedan with just the rear tinted? I want to have an idea of how it'll look like. Planning on 35% tint.

Thanks

Sir Nuke November-11th-2002 01:39 AM

why not get ALL the windows tinted the same?

Pole-1 November-11th-2002 01:59 AM

The law here doesn't allow any tint at all in the front, and I don't want to risk it. I know tinting the whole car 35% looks really sweet, but think i'll just stick with what the law says.:)

I might as well ask for people's opinions here, should the rear windows be tinted, or not at all and leave the whole car uniform with clear windows? What looks better?

redrims November-11th-2002 02:44 AM

Leave the car uniform. I think it will look unbalanced and incompltete.

OH....I understand.....ahhhh that really sucks.....as the cars look so sweet with tint all the way around......hmmmmmm that would be a hard decision.....but I agree.....I think it would look better uniform.......but its really up to you. of course it wouldn't look any different than having all the windows tinted, and driving around with the front windows down......

I've got the same problem here ... the law doesn't allow any tint in the front. So I only teinted the rears ones ... I think it actually look good ! Here is a pic :

Passenger Rear and back: 15%
Driver and Front Passenger: 35%
Sun Roof: 5%

But this is only in Washington.

Hey Wingman21,

thanks for the pic, you're right, it does look pretty nice. What %tint did you get for the rear?

hihoslva November-12th-2002 11:15 AM

Personally, I don't like the "unbalanced" look either. So even though it's illegal in NY, I tinted my car 20% all around.

For me, it was an all-or-nothing affair. On SUV's it looks *aight* (kinda) to have the rear tinted and the front not, but IMHO, sedans and cars in general look kinda silly with just the rear tinted.

I have yet to be hassled for my highly-illegal tint job (about 6 months so far). I figure if the ticket is not too expensive, paying one a year or so (if it happens) is worth it. Me loves me tint!

35% for the rear ... It's not that much, but if you tint the rear too much, you'll have an umbalanced car

SEA_P5 November-13th-2002 06:36 PM

Heheheee...I guess I broke the balance...

I went for the maximum that I could for the rear and front. But I really do not care if my car looks imbalance...I rather have the maximum that I can get to get less glare.

Naoto November-13th-2002 06:59 PM

yeah i agree.. im going to get the maximum.. that 35% in the back and 50% up front here in va..

hihoslva,

best of luck to you with your illegal tint.

Wingman21,

do you have a bigger version of the pic in your signature? I like to see how the tint looks from the side, thanks.:)

here is my 20% rear, 35% front.

Kincaid November-14th-2002 08:49 PM

Check sig for pics. 35% in the two fronts. 15% around back.

And the law here says no tint on front windows as well. No hassle.

35% is easy enough to see a good shape through. Most cops shouldn't give you a problem with it though.

patnew November-17th-2002 07:35 AM

In Ontario you are allowed 35% on the front passenger and driver windows, and as dark on the back as you want to go. The only glass you are not allowed to do is the windshield.

Just remember that you might have to back up at night sometime.

so does any one know what the legal tint percentage is in New York City? cause i would like to get some but not deal with the cops.

Legal tint in NY is NO TINT AT ALL ANYWHERE!

Legal schmegal - I've had my 20% for at least 6 months without any hassle whatsoever (I'm on Long Island, boricua).

I'd say go 35% if you're worried - it's not dark at all.

I got my info from this website, last updated in May 2002: http://www.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/

and here's the text of the NYS laws regarding tint: http://www.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/tint_ny.txt

Whatever. Some laws are so ridiculous, even the cops won't enforce 'em.

I agree man - I was under the impression that SOME tint was legal - I thought it was nothing on the fronts, but no limit on the rear sides and rear. That's the way it USED to be - you could tint the rear with plywood if you wanted ;)

Leave it to NY man - I mean, they let dual-wheel pickups on the Grand Central and the Belt, but they gotta take away ALL tint. Fucking nuts.

Like I said though - I get no hassle at all. And it's not just me - you know you see the guys with total mirror tint, the "shaded" mirror stuff and all that other bling-bling every damn day - I know I do. I went for the dark rather than mirror - less "flashy".

I've said before that if I get one ticket a year for it, and it's not a very expensive ticket or a moving violation with points, it's probably worth it. As long as it's just a "pay it or fix it" thing, I'll pay 'em. But luckily, none yet.

Oh, and my wife has 20% on her Jeep, and she gets no hassle either. I don't think cops care too much about it - especially if you stay away from the mirrored, ricey look.

You guys are lucky with having tint on front windows.
in Vancovuer,BC no tint is allowed on fronts unless you have some doctors note regarding front tint..special permit..

but cops have pulled over cars for tint.. then get their cars inpected for other parts, muffler dB, too low, possibly get towed...

on top of that.. if its just tint.. they might scratch it themselves.. and/or give a ticket..

boricua November-19th-2002 10:03 AM

yea well i really don't give a crap about the laws in NY. i'm puttin on some 35% joints on mine. its a stupid law, not allowing any kind of tint.
